Hi everyone, just wanted to introduce myself to the community.

My name is Troy, 37 yo in Salt Lake City, Utah. Aftrr many years of wishing I could I am finally on the road to get my ppl. I'm just starting out, signed up for a ground school here locally and hope to find a CFI or 2 to get flying next week.

Welcome and good luck on your journey

Troy, best of luck on your training and welcome to POA!

Thank you all for the welcoming words. I'm excited to get the adventure off the ground

Welcome to POA Troy....

On your long distance X country flight, come on up to Jackson Hole..

At which airport are you doing your training Troy? South Valley?

I've been lurking the last couple of weeks. Just thought I'd give an update.

I've yet to fly, but I have plenty of experience with being grounded due to inclement weather.

Hopefully I will have more to report after Saturday

P.S.
Where can I get one of them fancy blank maps to fill in when I do start flying?

Hi Troy! I'm a fellow Salt Laker. Flying here is really a blast. Usually there is great flying weather all year long, just not lately! Just keep your head on a swivel over at South Valley. That is a VERY busy training airport. I've only flown in there a few times, but it always felt that there were planes everywhere. Have you been up yet at all, even for a discovery flight? If not, let me know if you want to, I can take you up for a short spin around town.

Thanks Scott

Woodchucker, I did an discovery flight about 8 years ago but haven't been up since. I just checked my weather app and the chance of rain went from 60 to 20 so I'm reallu hoping to get up tomorrow.

Where do you fly out of?

Well I finally got to go wheels up this weekend. It was awesome, got a little bit of rain, but nothing too crazy.

My CFI said that I did great, I can't wait to go up again.

Key strategy: schedule frequent lessons, so you lose less between lessons. Costs less that way.

Also, make sure you take enough lessons before the first credit card bill shows up that you can't afford to quit. :)

Keep us posted on your journey!

Something I found invaluable was to voice record my lessons. Your instructor will say a lot of stuff that you won't remember, and you will miss radio calls. I actually used to recreate my flights on MSFX while listening to the recordings. It helped a ton.

Yep, try your best to do three lessons a week, more if you can, and make sure you read more than you fly by a factor of 4. There are many interwoven things that need to be learned besides just manipulating a machine in 3 dimensions, which in itself is not insignificant.
