Maybe I'm the last to find out, but as of September 30, 2007, the FAA has changed the subject codes for knowledge tests. I figured this out the hard way after seeing unfamiliar codes on my student's written and having a difficult time finding out what they meant. Thanks to Gleim's web site, I learned about the FAA's new "learning statement" system.
AC 60-25F will still be posted on the FAA's site for a while because tests are good for two years, and tests prior to October of this year refer to these old codes. Meanwhile, there is a list of the new codes on the FAA's site, which I still can't find by browsing, but found through Gleim's link.
The new codes appear to be an improvement. They give a better idea of what specific task needs to be accomplished in order to make up for what was missed. Instead of organizing subjects by their reference publication, the new system puts them in order by topic.
