Planning to buy a couple of folding bikes soon if I can find a reason to... Anybody know any interesting spots in NC, SC, TN, or Southern VA that are a bike-ride from the airport. Something with small town shops, museums, antique stores, good places to eat, or just hang out? Based at KRUQ and looking mostly for day-trip or over a weekend kinda stuff. (A Skyhawk is our ride)...

Today would be ALMOST perfect for a folding bike.

For once the club plane is available but no way I'm flying to llano, tx for bbq without a crew car available. Which it isn't because the municipal airport office is closed.

Too hot to bike.

But come fall, riding a bike on a Sunday the 2 miles from the airport to the restaurant wouldn't be a bad trip.

Give us a pirep on which bike you choose.

keep in mind I've never biked to or even been there (I'll go eventually), but the Sierra Nevada Brewery is about 2.5 miles from KAVL (Asheville), even less if you can somehow get across to the west side of the runway. It looks like they have decent food and sometimes have live music. I'm not sure about the bike-a-bility, but that's my suggestion. well, other than something like north myrtle, which would be great for folding bikes, lunch, a quick beach visit, etc...

Funny, I never thought of myrtle... Hmmm... The Ashville idea sounds pretty good too, and it's a fairly short hop for a day trip...

Flying Pig BBQ restaurant a short walk (and therefore a shorter ride) from airport in Shelby, NC.

Howard's Pub would be a nice ride from Ocracoke airport.

Yea, been there... borrowed the golf cart and with lock-combination in hand, headed out the south gate which puts you directly across the street... Nice little adventure... Will certainly do that again... (maybe with the bikes) Thanx

Seriously? There is a Sierra Nevada brewery in NC?

Next they will start selling grits in California...

yep, madness, I know. they've been selling Fat Tire beer here for a while. 'breweries' are all the rage here now. meh, for me, "a place you go to to drink beer" is still called a bar, whether they make it there or not. but i guess I can see the appeal of those giant shiny vats in the background.

Soon to be a New Belgium brewery in Asheville as well - makers of Ranger IPA, a pretty good and widely available IPA.

Coming soon to Virginia Beach - Green Flash Brewing's new East Coast brewery (following me here?). - makers of one of my all time favorites, West Coast IPA.

If you're into mountain biking, The Biology Trail in Collegedale TN is about 3 miles from the airport and has a number of different trails.
