New 9/11 photos from the NYPD Aviation Unit released

Wow, The only word that comes to mind when I saw the pics was...... Chilling.

Brings back bad memories (of working in the area shortly afterwards). You can see in some of the pics how the ash and drywall and concrete dust coated everything for blocks all around. And there was smoke coming out of the hole several days afterwards.

There was smoke and fumes rising for months. Even after the mayor announced that the fire was out, it would start up again and die back down several times more.

Y'know, I was thinking "months", but thought I remembered it wrong.
I guess there were areas that just could not be reached, and it's not like they could just pour water down there... they were busy trying to get water out.
