If you're ever in the Ohio area, it's only a 1 hr flight from Columbus or the Dayton area to Neil Armstrong airport, KAXV. While not on par with Dayton's famous museum, it is nonetheless an interesting stop. I was impressed with the size of the place as well as the number of people who came thru during our 1.5 hour, $8 visit.
Learned some interesting facts from the staff as well as from a 30 minute movie about the space program and the Apollo mission that put Neil and Buzz on the moon. It's unfortunate but understandable that Collins, who stayed on the command module overhead, gets so little attention.
For example, I didn't know that during the rocket burn sequence, the capsule 1st separated from the rocket then turned around, re-docked to pick up the lunar landing module, then re-separated, turned around again and only then headed for the moon. That certainly added complexity to the mission!
Anyway, highly recommend a stop if you're in the area and looking for something to do. The museum itself is about 10 miles away and AXV has a courtesy car - call ahead: https://www.armstrongmuseum.org
