The 11 series (post war) were orange -- but were pre-war also orange?

The one in the OP's photo is a pre-war Super Chief. The post-war 11AC's were painted as shown here.

You can clearly see in the picture it is a tube steak on a river of mustard. Little Oscar is appalled at such a suggestion.

The original orange is attractive, as is the young thing on the strut...
