So I found out tonight the my ex step mother installed a keylogger on the machine that handles the books for my dad's company and private. I know the email address that these things are being sent to but I don't know the password (obviously). I know that the police would be the best option but we really want to see what all she has collected on this email before we pursue this. People here are good at thinking out of the box so I wanted to see if anyone knew of anything I could do. It is a gmail account if that changes anything.

Everyone feel free to PM me about this if you like. I don't know what to do.

how does one know if there is a key logger installed...?

Man, I wish I was a fly on the wall for all this!

I had a case once, hubby and wife had owned a business for years, getting divorced (hubby decided to upgrade, thought wife was an idiot... thought wrong).

Hubby and new girlfriend entered business after hours so girlfriend (ex-stripper, to make the stereotype complete) could install keylogger on the accounting computer. They did not know about the surveillance video system with sound. The recording was priceless, especially the comments "Bambi" was making about my client.

It played well in court.

Well, she had forwarded him an email that wasn't supposed to go to him I think that made very suspicious and "EBlaster" was referenced in it. So I googled Eblaster and found out what it was. Then spent the rest of the night finding it and trying to find what she had taken. The police are dealing with it now and after talking with one of the attorneys at work, it seems she broke about two or three federal laws in the process. Hopefully my dad decides to pursue it, this is not the first round of ridiculous things she's done and it needs to end.

Amen to that Dr Bruce. The older I get the more I like dogs.

I have just about decided that it's not even worth getting married for even the slightest chance of having to deal with all of the crap that has gone on here.

That is why I live with cats. :D They have a higher moral code!

Friend of mine had a cat that would cr*p on the bed if not fed at the appropriate time. That made it tough to go out in the evenings.

I had a similar case years ago. I removed the keylogger and thought things were over. Unfortunately, I wound up getting subpoenaed and had to spend a day sitting on a bench outside the courtroom. I never did get called to testify; apparently they came to some sort of agreement.

It wasn't all bad: I did get paid for it. But I decline these sort of husband / wife de-snooping jobs nowadays. Too much potential for aggravation.

Scott, I hear ya. In addition to turtles, I have added tropical fish and aquatic frogs to my list of companions since my recent breakup. My office is starting to look like an aquarium. But they seem to exert a very calming, uplifting sort of energy -- very much the opposite of my ex-girlfriend.

The neighbors and their kids even stop by once in a while to sit and watch the expanding variety of aquatic life in my office. I'm thinking about charging admission.

Bingo! I don't take on jobs like that at my shop and have also instructed my employees to not bother.
