Glad to know that with all the distractions in the world, certain congresscritters have their priorities in order:

Rep. Edolphus Towns, D-N.Y., the incoming chairman of the House Committee on Oversight and Government Reform, said he will hold hearings and possibly subpoena NCAA officials, college presidents, players, coaches and athletics directors in an effort to force a playoff in Division 1-A football, USA Today reports.

"I think you really do not get a true No. 1 out of (the Bowl Championship Series)," Towns told the newspaper. "Nobody questions the Super Bowl. The team that wins is the best team that year. I think we can do the same thing at the college level where once it's over there is no questions about who is No. 1 and who is No. 2."

GO GATORS!!!

Not sure if this belongs in SZ or the sports forum... ;)

If the discussion turns to inflation-adjusted rankings - then it goes in SZ! :D

You saying Morgantown *DIDN'T* score 17.124 points per quarter last year???

Yea....but, since their offensive line weighted 15% more, their score needs to be discounted 15%!! :D You get less with more!

I love it. Now THAT is getting your priorities straight. To hell with Israel and Hamas -- we need a collegiate football championship!!!!:rolleyes::rolleyes::rolleyes:!:mad3:

I can't find, or remember, the reference now, but this reminds me of something I read about group dynamics once. If you present a difficult and complex issue to a committee, it's sometimes possible for an inadequate solution to coast easily through approval, with little in the way of debate, because most members will not have a sufficient grasp of the issue to be able to challenge the proposal.

But if you present an issue that's relatively trivial (I'm remember the example being something like a proposal to build a bike rack), then you'll face a great deal of spirited discussion and debate, because it will be an issue that everybody on the committee can grasp, and conjure up an opinion on.
