That is a simple Goose Gooser, used to curtail bird strikes by Canadian Geese, I think Sully invented it.

The is a pic of the leading edge on a Hawker 850XP. There is one vortilon on each wing about oh 10 feet or so from the wing roots.

There is only one OEM that PRIDES itself on airfoil design that DOES NOT need "cheating" devices like vortilons, votex generators, cupped washers, stall fences etc, and that is Dassault.

I was certain that it was a tusk, and though it may be vestigial now, was once a powerful defensive weapon.

I guess my aviation-ivory business scheme isn't going to fly afterall.
