I really just need the flat steel portion for a project.

The ones at the auto parts stores are all 3/16 wide; too narrow.

Tried Amazon, eBay, Google.
btw how do you get Amazon & Google search engines to exclude terms like eBay does with the minus sign?

If you just need the metal then try searching for 1/4 wide spring steel. Amazon seems to have a bunch of options.
