When we are youngsters, just from our own experiences with them, we grow up thinking doctors can always fix us, no matter what goes awry. So we have complete faith in them as they order tests and prescribe medicines, we even allow them to cut into us knowing they will make us better.
As we age, we start realizing that doctors are just like us, they are not infallible after all. They are not going to fix every little thing that seems to keep going wrong with us. We learn that we must ask questions, and do a little of our own thinking about our survival, or demise.
The harmonica man has made this discovery. We are the PIC of our body, the finale decision does rest on our shoulders.
However, like the ninety year old who still smokes, drinks, and engages in other outlandish behavior that should have killed them years ago, it does not mean that we can get away with it. Some folks are just downright lucky. Perhaps they are lucky simply because the are still contributing in some way that is not apparent to the casual observer.
