I might have a chance to see Rio de Janeiro. I have a pretty fair idea what's available to see- Cristo Redentor, Pão de Açúcar, Copacabana (I thought that was just a Barry Manilow song), and Ipanema (another song about a girl).

If I get down there, I'll only have an afternoon and a morning to see stuff. With a short amount of time and no local transportation knowledge, I find guided tours do a reasonable way to see at least the main sights of a city.

Any suggestions? I see Grey lines- but it seems they want notification 48 hours ahead...and I don't think I can guarantee that given my experience with USA air carriers.

Thanks for the suggestions.

My only suggestion is this: watch your wallet.:nono:

I haven't been to Rio, just Sao Paulo and Brasilia. One request - have a caipirihna or two for me. :D

Watch your wallet, more so than most American cities, in my opinion.

Damn it, now I've got "Girl from Ipanema" in my head. Or, as we played it at Berklee, "The Girl from Iwo Jima" or "The Girl from Hiroshima" (she really glowed).
