<NA> Motorcycle photo thread

I sold our last motorcycle long before digital photography existed (1975), so there aren't any pictures of that Honda CL-175 to share. Suffice to say, it wasn't the fastest bike around. This is what it looked like (found the picture on the internet).

In high school I lusted over the CB160. Read the road test (in Popular Science? Popular Mechanics?) over and over and over again.Would have been a nice step up from my Yamaha 80!

Bikes were a bit cheaper back then!

Still have that catalog where the dealer wrote down the prices 50+ years ago!

VERY NICE!

Just curious - is it possible to disable "Geriatric Mode"?

Yessir.

I've even tracked a GL-1200, once, just for fun and listened to the scrapes.

(I'm surprised the trackday organizer let me on with it. But it was the lunchtime session, so....)

The boxer engine feels like a little turbine as it crosses into the top 25% of the revv range.

I was joking.

My first Gold Wing ride was a student’s GL1000A back in the day. It was a freakin’ rocket and SOOOO smooth. I didn’t care for the fact they kept getting bigger and fancier, via the Interstate and the Aspencade. Then the Valkyrie seemed to harken back to the naked original. But I’m sure the current models are great for what they do.

Mine was a Gl1100. A refugee from the eighties. Was very well set up for what it did. Sold me on the brand.

After the break in period I'm going to do exactly what I did when my '98 Aspencade hit 300mi, take it to Deals Gap and flog the absolute feces outta the thing. Maybe I'll mount the GoPro for grins...

Current ride since Nov 2017 is a 2008 Kawasaki Vulcan 900 Classic LT. Favorite was a Z900RS that I sold last summer to pay for flying expenses. Still doubting the wisdom of that decision.

That’s a beautiful bike!

Now buy her copies of all of Peter Eagan’s motorcycle books to go with it.

I was recently commenting that I prefer a slightly more aggressive riding position, as opposed to bolt upright, and I managed to (finally) find this gem that stood out in my memory:

I especially love his reference to “The Ascent of Man”!

That one is in one of Eagan’s books. Excellent!

Might need a more geriatric bike soon. I now have neck pain that I suspect is a repetitive stress injury from riding a super sport for a decade.

Nice lean angle on that 1st pic. What track? Somewhere in the Cali desert?
Toole, Utah (just West of Salt Lake). Was called Miller Motorsports Park, now called Utah Motorsports Campus. Great Track with a number of different configurations.

One of the few places you can get a pic w/snow capped mountains in the background - if you time it right.

I thought about tracking the super sport that did in my neck, but the cost was great enough that it was either that or flying. I chose flying. Good thing too, that racing stuff is dangerous.
Haha, exactly! Fortunately for me, racing and flying didn't coincide... unless you consider a "get off" from the bike - flying...

I'm sufficiently antiquated for that mode of flying to leave permanent debilitating injuries. Problem with racing is you push it, and when you push it you crash. If you don't push it you aren't racing.

I'm injured enough thank you. It's going to really suck hard if I have to give up my bike.

I put a set of Helibars on my Daytona. Made all the difference in the world.

Natural progression (or maybe regression). I moved from racecars to motorcycles to airplanes. 4 wheels on the ground to 2 wheels on the ground to 0 wheels on the ground.

I tended to push it even on track days or just solo days at the track (knew the track owner, so he let me out whenever). But racing takes it up a notch for sure, the most serious year I had was when a delivery truck showed up and unloaded $10K worth of slicks for the season. That was a great year though, won the #1 plate, open class for the season and qualified Pro and dabbled a weekend racing with kids 1/2 my age. Actually gridded up with Joe Roberts. He lapped me in Race 1 .

I like it! Good perspective for sure... hadn't thought about it quite like that, but you're right!

I took a tired, long in storage ‘81 Moto Guzzi V50 III, stripped it down and cafe’d it into this.
It’s now too cramped for my old joints. Recently offered it for listing on Bring A Trailer (hoping, of course, to get BaT bids, HA)….but they weren’t interested. Oh well, guess I’ll have to deal with tire kicking time-wasters.

Karen’s gradually venturing out to more challenging roads. These from Saturday:

Unfortunately, we had an ambulance and a police car pass us as we were northbound on the newly opened section. Came across an accident scene where apparently a rider had left the road. Later on the news we saw it was a fatality, likely speed related. Like flying, motorcycling is fun and challenging, but can be pretty unforgiving of mistakes.

On a brighter note, we’re gradually working up to her earning her Dragon decal by running Deal’s Gap, but waiting for a weekday when the traffic is typically lighter.
