We'll be making the move to the Atlanta area next week. Unfortunately, our current bank doesn't have branches anywhere in the area.

Anybody have recommendations on a respectable and stable bank to use in south-of-Atlanta area? I at first thought SunTrust would be a good one, but I've been reading reviews about them talking about horrible online banking and random holds on deposits. Thinking now about either Bank of North Georgia or Delta Community Credit Union. We'll be living in the Fayetteville/Peachtree City/Fairburn area.

Any tips?

Do you need a local bank? Heck, I have never lived in a town where my bank has a branch! They only have one branch down in San Antonio TX.

If I were you I'd stay away from all the local banks. If by chance you have a Wells Fargo account, hang onto it - they own Wachovia (all over the East Coast), and you can use all Wachovia branches & ATMs with no extra fees.

I don't live in GA, so can't comment on their local banks. However, I've had it with the banks in NC.YMMV.

Chris, Can't give you anything in Atlanta proper but I use TD Bank, they are big but open 7 days a week and are everywhere up here. I have written some directions for you below.. TD is actually just around the corner from Wings:D you can make a deposit there when you come up for the FLYBQ

We've been with First Union/Wachovia/Wells Fargo since 1989, and have had good experiences always. Tons of branches al over the countrty now that Wells Fargo bought them out. (I'm in Atlanta BTW)

LOL... Thanks for the 'help', Adam. I'll pass that info along to Rachel when she has a check to deposit.

I was looking at Wachovia a bit, too. My bro-in-law works for Wells Fargo here in Des Moines, so I was going to pick his brain about Wachovia. All of my wife's family uses Wells Fargo (obviously), but I've been with US Bank for the past 9 years or so.

I would prefer to find a 'national' sized bank just in case this job ends up moving us around a bit. Unfortunately, the only 'national' bank in the area we'll be in is Wachovia, and I wasn't sure how well they were doing...

Guess I'll give them another look-see..

Thanks!

Bank with USAA. They allow you to make deposits by scanning checks and emailing them in, use anyone's ATM to get cash.

No gripes with Wells Fargo after 3+ years....but my company has some sort of relationship with them so maybe they don't mess with us.

If Bank of America is in Atlanta, avoid them...I had no problems with them until I moved to an area with no BoA coverage. Getting my deposit back was more difficult than pilling a cat.

Agree. And the first few ATM transactions a month are free, regardless of where you get cash.

Personally I would go with a credit union. I've been with the Associated Credit Union for many years now. I don't pay for checking and between using Publix ATMs or and ACU ATM I don't pay any ATM fees. It doesn't look like they have a branch near you though. Just in case you want to look it's www.acuonline.org

+1,000,000.

With a credit union, as a depositor you are something like a stockholder as well - Meaning, they treat you better than any bank ever will.

I've been with a credit union since the last time I got screwed by a bank - Probably 15 years. No fees for anything, no minimum balances, I get interest paid on my checking account, free overdraft protection, etc. etc... I'm extremely happy with them, and will never go back to a bank again.

USAA is great, and I use them as well as Wells Fargo/Wachovia. They were originally a Mutual Insurance Company for military officers - but in recent years have expanded into banking and opened membership to the enlisted ranks as well. Now, in addition, anyone who is an honorably-discharged veteran can join.

If you qualify, they are among the best in the business. I've been a member for around 40 years.
