I have worn Allen Edmonds dress shoes for over 20 years, and have had the occasion to get various pairs recrafted after I literally wore them out. They are returned to you with new soles, heals, refurnished leather, and even felt shoe bags and shoe trees if you want them.

Recently, I returned my first pair of casual shoes for recrafting, after I, once again, wore them out. This 8-year old pair of boots took my through my private pilot and instrument ratings, and were perfect for preflighting in snow and slush, and hugging my ankles to remind me I needed to use my feet when flying!

From a customer service persective, they actually send you before and after pictures of your recrafted shoes, and keep you informated as to the progress. I received the email below today.

I have no conflict of interest with Allen Edmonds, but just wanted to recommend this Port Washington, Wisconsin based manufacturer of the highest quality shoes I have ever worn.

Nice lead.. I've been looking for quality shoes. Nearly everything sold is made in China and mostly MAN MADE MATERIALS.

I love my HS Trask Bison leather shoes I bought in Bozeman 5 years ago (time for the third re-soling).

Red Wing boots have served me well (Current pair is 4 years old and has three hunting seasons and many cold weather walks and snowshoe expeditions).

I had Danner Matterhorn uniform boots that were ruined in one 24 hour period at the WTC site on Sept 14-15. Those were great boots but could not endure the beating they took in that harsh environment.

I have a pair of Edmonds tassel loafers that are now on their third factory reman. Great quality and customer service.

thanks for letting me know about them, folks. Just found my new shoe company.

I hate throwing out shoes. And, I hate buying foreign-manufactured shoes.

My ex swore by Allen Edmonds shoes. Too bad they don't make anything for women. I'm kinda partial to my Cole Haans, but my favorite pair of flats are falling apart. I guess after 16 years of almost daily wear..... :-) I now only wear them at work.

I'm going to take them down to our local shoe repair and see what Craig can do for them.
