Not to make light of others, but I feel like a druggie tonight. It's quarter to 11PM, I'm tired, about to fall asleep and right now I resisting the urge to hit McDonald's. Not cause I'm hungry, not cause they have good food, but because I really want their fries. It's almost like they sprinkle imitation crack on their fries cause I'm sitting here about to go through some withdrawal from cutting them off this week.

It's been 2 days since I've cut them off, and its tough to driving past 4 McDonald's on the way home. As I sit here I'm rocking back and forth whispering "To the drive thru I shall not cower ..." I realize I'm somewhat addicted to their fries (& nuggets).

Oh well, looks like I'll start taking the bus and careful pick my routes to/from work for a while.

[/rant]

Other then beef oils, what do they put in those fries?

I hear ya... there's a 24-hr drive-thru CrackDonald's about a block from my house... I just got home from work, and were it not for the fact that I'd had the sense to whip up some pasta before I went in tonight, I'd be snarfing fries and a 1/3 pound "Angus" burger right now.

I can't say I'm really addicted to the fries, but I hit McD's way too often- it's convenient and predictable.
But it sure is easier putting that stuff in your body than getting rid of it! I'd write a song called "The Morning After Mickey D's Blues", but I'm too tired. :D

As a McDonald's shareholder, I appreciate your business. :D

Fortunately we limit Micky D's to trips. Otherwise I'd be in better shape. Round is a shape, right?

The history of the fries: Ray couldn't get the same flavor on the fries as the McDonalds brothers. It turned out when they stored the prepared potatoes in the basement they were "cured" by the sea air.

McD says they figured out how to duplicate that. I know that when I worked in the hot dog stand, we soaked the fresh sliced potatoes in a sulfate solution. I'll bet McD does the same, but these days sulfates are blamed for reactions in asthmatics. The solution removed some of the potato starch to the point where after a session of making a half-weeks worth of fries we had like 6 inches of white stuff in the bottom of the barrels.

Doesn't McDonalds have sugar with the salt they shake on the fries?

Not sure about the sugar/salt thing. But McD's fries are coated with a flavor agent. They come from the processing plant that way.

They put a number of things on there - and it's true... I can eat a quarter pounder and fries, have more than a THOUSAND calories, and want MORE at the end of the "meal"... They're putting something in there...

Give me 700 calories of "real food" (slow food...) and I'm stuffed. Go figure.

It is rare that the fries from McDonalds are edible. Perhaps it's because I always go at weird hours. Generally though--they're cold, soaked in grease, and extremely flimsy.

You have a bad operator.

McD has firm guidelines on how old stuff can be and still be served. They're supposed to fry up small batches at low volume times so you always have fresh fries.

If you wanted you could call Oakbrook and blow the whistle on them. You might get a few coupons.

They must have forgot to put the Viagra in the fryer.

My experience as well

For more fries? :no::vomit:

Has anyone ever noticed how much people generally smell like what they eat? Maybe my nose is too sensitive, but I notice that a lot.

Mikky Ds used to be rally clean places where you at least knew what you were getting, even if it was a bit nasty. Lat time we went to one we decided we were going to give up going, as we have not seen a clear McDs in a long time.

I knew Russia was in bad shape when I heard their food wasn't good enough for McDonalds.

As I remember McDonalds let things for slide for a while and some franchisees fell off the wagon. They had a "come to Jesus" about 10 years ago to let it be known they wanted every place to meet the cleanliness standards that Ray set in the first place.

There are some pungent foods like Kim Chee where a whole body smell is typical.

I remember reading that the Vietnamese used to say they could detetct American soldiers by the beef smell.

Apparently, it didn't work.
