Larry Harmon, who turned the character Bozo the Clown into a show business staple that delighted children for more than a half-century, died Thursday of congestive heart failure. He was 83.

He was apparently not the original Bozo, but made the character popular.

As a kid, I got to be on Bozo's Circus twice. Even got chosen for the "GPG" (only made it to bucket number 4, Bozo distracted me ). In its heyday you had to apply for tickets years in advance.

Farewell, Bozo. I spent a lot of hours watching him and Captain Kangaroo. And Floppy, but no one but the central Iowans would probably know Floppy...

Willard was a Bozo (still is IMHO) but he was not the first. Larry Harmon was portraying Bozo at least three years before Williard according to Wiki.
