Alright I know this is a friggin' stupid post but...

My left thumb hurts. Bottom joint/knuckle. Been going on for weeks. Annoying.

Joint is double-jointed/always been really loose. Can sit here and pop it in and out easily using the thumb muscles and nothing else. Always have.

But if I use the thumb muscles only (or manipulate it) to move thumb up and to the left (toward hand) it hurts.

Sucks getting old.

I usually drive and fly with just the index finger and thumb of the left hand. Extremely uncomfortable to drive, so I end up using the whole hand and haven't tried flying with it yet.

Just annoying.

That's what I'm guessing. I read all your fun with your shoulder too, and I figure I'm only a few years behind ya on doing something with my right one.

Stay in school kids. Throwing baggage and cargo for an airline isn't too good on the body even in your 20s, and it'll all come back to haunt you later on. Ha.

If it is any sort of arthritis, then absent any other symptoms, it'd possibly be osteoarthritis. Rheumatoid arthritis would probably exhibit more systemic symptoms - i.e. you have othet persistent aches and pains.

If ibuprofen relieves the pain better than acetaminophen then some inflammation may be partially causal. (Ibuprofen reduces inflammation while acetaminophen generally doesn't.)

Not a doctor.

Probably from all those giant PoA posts you write on your iDevices in your truck :)

Sounds like trigger thumb, can be fixed surgically. Mrs. Steingar just had four fingers done. Her hand is still sore though.

Chop it off. You have a spare. :)

Welcome to getting older.

Just wait until it's your knee that hurts...

Are you still using a Blackberry? :D

When I read "My Left thumb...", my brain went "tl;dr and get a softer hammer"

I had surgery for trigger thumb two years ago. It was giving me fits. It would snap like a rubber band when I bent it. It became very painful and inflamed. I did corticosteroid shots twice, directly into the offending tendon, but relief only lasted 4-6 weeks. Surgery was simple and fixed the problem completely.

I knew this would be fun. Ha. ;)

Might be trigger thumb.

Wrong hand. If it were bothering my shooting hand, I'd already have gone to a Doc! ;) (No snarky remarks about how badly I shoot with my off hand...)

Damn it. I'm posting from my truck right now. Have a 20:00 appointment in town so no point driving all the way home... And back.

But wrong hand again. The right thumb is oversized from iPhone typing. Ha. (Kidding.)

I'm getting the feeling "trigger thumb" is a real thing. Googling later. Ha.

Grandpa would have said, "I have a pocket knife. Come here."

Just wait until it's your knee that hurts...

Ohh. No. Sorry man.

Exercise regularly helps with those Middle age pains. Do lots of stretching Exercise and get rid of the excess weight.

Uhhhhhh.

That made me LOL.

Ok I'll look up this trigger thumb thing.

Oh well, if it gets too bad I'll just have to change my grip...

Arthritis, same here.

LOL! I think I would like your Grandpa.

Be careful. If a medical professional responds, you'll have to declare it on your next form 8500.

I mentioned it to my AME and he said, "Yeah, you're getting that age, you know the saying, getting old ain't for *******."

You would probably shoot really badly if you tried to pull the trigger with your thumb.

Ok I went looking to see if anyone has done a trick shot with their thumb like that and instead found a bunch of trigger thumb surgeries that look like someone is skinning a chicken leg for dinner.

Now I don't want to know more. LOL.

The surgery takes about 15 minutes and is done through a slit about a 1/2 inch. I'd do it again in a heartbeat if I had the problem on the other hand.

Regarding your medical, I simply put down "minor thumb surgery" as one of my doctor's visits and the AME didn't even ask about it. No problems from the FAA.
