I just got the call from the Wings of Hope people. After a few weather-related delays, they will be leaving shortly to deliver my plane to me. I will keep updating this as the day goes, and will have pics (maybe video) up later this evening. If anybody is bored and wants to track the flight, the number is N45601.

Congrats again, Josh. :goofy: Where did you finally decide to hangar it?

Looks like the pilot is trying to do an end run around the weather in Illinois.

The track/weather on flight aware looks to be over a year old.

Its a 150.. probably not filing IFR so don't expect too much out of flightaware.

On a related note I sometimes file when I could easily go VFR because I am being met by someone. Flightaware has a great alert e-mail thing you can set up. For example a thunderstorm was sitting over my destination and I diverted to a nearby field. My brother got an e-mail as soon as I diverted and stayed home instead of wasting his time driving to pick me up.

I was able to get a corner of a hanger in Hartford, KHXF. Nothing in flight aware yet.

If they use flight following and have a squawk code Flight Aware should be tracking it. You must be excited.

Where are they flying from?

If you get VFR flight following and are high enough for radar coverage then you'll show up on FlightAware. My flight from Orange County to Denver yesterday is proof of that: http://flightaware.com/live/flight/N3833T

Not just radar coverage but I believe you need to be high enough or travel far enough that you are out of approach control and going to center. Even then, its spotty sometimes.

As an example here is a VFR flight down to near Charleston, SC from Raleigh, NC. Picked up flight following as soon as was practical. http://flightaware.com/live/flight/N1068X/history/20130316/1445Z/KSOP/KDYB

Note the locations are all estimated. It didn't really track the flight

what are you guys talking about? weather at st louis and most of IL is beautiful today

The shuttle pilot arrived with his plane, the pilot with my plane is about 30 minutes out.

It tracked me a while ago for most of my flight (VFR). The last few locations were estimated, but most of it was actual radar returns. No idea where the got those two intersections from on the "route of flight," though. Never heard of either of them. Granted, I don't fly down that way very much. Also, it got my airplane type wrong. I guess they got fed up with trying to find Sky Arrow, even though I gave them the designator phonetically...oh well!

Here she is! A little worn, but not too bad for original paint and interior.

Congrats, Josh! She's a beauty. If you need someone to share a few beers with while standing in your hangar galking and talking about your bird, I'm there for ya.

For sure! My hangar is owned by my flight school office manager and her husband. There are currently 3 other planes in there. It's a social group, and there is beer on tap.

There is plenty of life left in that girl. Enjoy it every chance you get. Congrats and welcome to the pride of ownership.

That old school paint scheme is so cool! Again, congrats.

Can you walk us through the process(without giving us your personal info, of course) from initially being notified about the win to today's delivery? I'd like a sense of the actual timeline, sales tax required and generally what other financial and logistical preparation it took in order to take delivery. This will give me a real sense of just how to prepare, you know, since I'm gonna win that sweet 1958 straight tail 172 this summer :D:D:D

I have to admit I'm not a big fan of the wheel fairings and will probably take them off.

They called and told me I won. I signed a few forms for them, saying I would take the prizes and a media release. The biggest part then was waiting for the weather to make the delivery possible. Haven't gotten into to tax stuff yet. I just have a ball park idea of what to do when that time comes. I know I'm on the hook for the state tax when I register it, which isn't too bad, and the fed taxes will be when I file for this year, so I have time to put money aside for it. I'm calling an accountant tomorrow about all the financial stuff, but my first talking with her it didn't seem too bad.

I like them. I also think they differentiate between a privately-owned 152 and a flight school queen.

My father-in-law has MS, and he has been wanting to fly with me for a while. But it would be impossible for him to get in a Cub. I think it would be easier for him to get in without the fairings. It did spend some time as a trainer, but only for a year or two.

Thanks a bunch, Josh! My final question is for anyone who might know the answer. Who determines the value of the plane for tax purposes?
