I just filed an IFR flight plan for tomorrow morning for what should be my longest flight to date. It's not a long flight in the grand scheme of things and weather is forecast to be severe clear, but I still have some nervous excitement over the whole thing.

If all goes as planned, this will knock out the long Commercial cross country requirement and also serve as a recon mission to an airport I may need to visit from time to time for work. (I could always drive for work, but why drive 4+ hours when I could fly it in less than half that time... and not have to deal with traffic.)

Remember.... Photos or it never happened. :D :D

I am afraid that I'll forget to take photos during the flight (or the stops). And then will have the legitimacy of the flight called into question. Luckily, I have put "Start Track Log" on my Before Takeoff checklist (after forgetting to start ForeFlight tracking the last few flights). ;)

I get bored on long flights. It's when I start fiddling with my E6B.

61.129 says your long xc needs to be part of the required 20hrs of training so make sure you get a signature for the 2 hr day xc once you're done.

From 61.129(a)(4):

(4) Ten hours of solo flight time in a single engine airplane or 10 hours of flight time performing the duties of pilot in command in a single engine airplane with an authorized instructor on board (either of which may be credited towards the flight time requirement under paragraph (a)(2) of this section), on the areas of operation listed under §61.127(b)(1) that include—

(i) One cross-country flight of not less than 300 nautical miles total distance, with landings at a minimum of three points, one of which is a straight-line distance of at least 250 nautical miles from the original departure point. However, if this requirement is being met in Hawaii, the longest segment need only have a straight-line distance of at least 150 nautical miles; and

Good luck ,have a fun flight.

I did my long Commercial XC FRG-HPN-RIC. Logged 7.8 hours and it was the most boring flight I've ever done because I was solo. Are you taking an instructor or doing it solo?

Just got back. Did it solo and boring is a pretty good way to describe it (which I'm OK with).

Actually checked in with ATC to make sure the radios didn't quit on me after about 15 mins of dead air. Controller said it was a really quiet day. Of course, when I got to the destination, a tow plane had just released a glider, a helicopter was departing and two others were inbound.
