Returning from Wisconsin, where I used their wireless to check, wx, I went to check my home E-mail and some internet stuff using my home wireless, supplied by the evil empire of AT&T.

The laptop would not connect to my home network. I know the router is working, because I can connect with Mrs. Steingar's laptop (formerly mine, long story).

I try network diagnostics (I'm on a Mac running OSX 5) and it asks for a password. Here's where is gets weird. I give it the wireless password written on the router, but it won't take it. It will not use the correct password to connect to the router, even though it has done so for months.

Color me stupid, I'm rather at the end of my own short rope. Any thoughts?

Did you reset the router? I have seen them refuse new connections, but continue to work fine with the PC's that it already "knows".
Usually happens to us when someone comes to visit and the router has to accept a new user for the first time in several months.

Unplug it for at least 30 seconds, or hit the "reset" button on the back (don't hold the reset button, or you'll probably wipe all the settings).

Did their wireless network have the same name as yours?

Thanks for the help. The wireless at Osh is not named similarly to the one in Steinholme. I was thinking about resetting the router, but it does the TV and phone too, so I am somewhat hesitant.

Try restarting the modem and router (without resetting it), and deleting all the wireless networks (including your home one) from the laptop, restarting it, and letting it re-discover the router.

Also, try switching between TKIP and AES encryption on the laptop.

(This wouldn't happen to be a FIOS router, would it?)

can do

The laptop discovers these things automatically. I never input anything, except the password to get into my home network.

This is not English as I understand it, though I do appreciate the effort. The router is kind of gray, and has blinking lights.

He has a U-Verse rig.

As suggested above (Rich, who knows a thing or two), delete all connections, and allow a new beginning.

Cannot believe you are having trouble, however, as Apple computers Cannot Fail.

In all the time I've been on this site, I have never asked about a computer problem until now. I will do as directed, however, and post up my success. Assuming I can get on the internet.

I am not suggesting wiping the router, but 'rebooting' it. The button on the back will often say "reset", but it's not truly a reset, it's a reboot (unless you press and hold for several seconds, which WILL reset to factory defaults).

To prevent any concerns about resets, unplug the router for at least 30 seconds, then plug back in. If you have any other hubs/switches (I have three), unplug them all, then plug the main router back in, followed by the others.

Let us know what happens.

I dunno who's at fault, but in all the cases I've seen like this involving Macs (including my own), resetting the router has cleared the problem.

YMMV.

Indeed it has with this one. Thank you all very, very much for your assistance.
