I installed these new backup lights on the truck yesterday afternoon and soldering in the wiring for them was essentially about a half an hour crunch, sitting up about halfway to reach up there and do the work.

The really dumb part was it was even parked on the driveway hill. I could have just moved it forward a few feet. LOL.

Or just went and got the creeper, wherever it has wandered off to. But the dually doesn't fit well in the garage for working on it.

Or I just need a bigger garage. Maybe a nice barn. With a lift.

Or I should do sit-ups more often. Or just exercise. Or something. Damn. Ouch.

Anyway. The new backup lights work. Like.

:yeahthat:

LOL. You live outside the city proper iirc. You have two pickup trucks + whatever else.
Of course you need a bigger garage. That looks like a barn!

Here's a shot of one of my garages as I was framing it in the winter of 08/09 (and there were more than a few days during that time when everything hurt):

I don't think I have the skill set to build my own, but I'm tempted. Probably would grab the contractor who lives across the road for an opinion on that.

He'd probably tell me I have better things to do and to hire the crews out here who do it all in about three days with a pole barn of almost any size, and a couple of weeks for more traditionally framed structures.

We're thinking about selling off the fifth wheel. We just aren't using it enough. The original barn sizes to handle a 32' trailer, were pretty big. I could probably "downsize" this dream a bit if we really do sell it and are over our "big trailer" phase.

I'm having a hell of a time figuring out an asking price on the thing, though. Not as easy as selling a car. Well, other than that whole "you definitely lost a bunch of money on that thing" since SHE wanted a new one... haha. But that was always expected.

The good and the bad is that we own it outright. So it's hard to decide to get rid of it and lose money on that transaction, but that's just the "stupid tax" for buying it new. Ha.

The flip side is it's nice to have a spare house sitting out back if you decide you need to be somewhere else for a while. Want to remodel the main house? Just pull the trailer to a flat spot, run the water to it and sewer into the septic, and you're all set for however long it takes.

I think though, if we keep it, it'd have to be put in a barn to treat it right out here. And I don't think we really need a barn/workshop that big.

First world problems, I know. I know. All good. Just haven't hit upon that magic thought that makes up my mind fully on it. And usually that's a sign right there that it needs to be sold.

You get a point for manual. So your at -99 :)

Sweet. Ok, how many points does my smoke-belching 2 stroke jet ski get me? Might break even!

Anyway, I'm kidding. I'm not a big fan of trucks just 'cause I don't like to drive them. But since buying my first house, I do admit a beater pickup sure would be handy. It sucks having Home Depot cut my lumber down for my latest project so I can fit it into the Corolla.

Haha, ya trucks and cars have their places.

Wish my 1996 Yamaha jet ski did break down though I've been riding that thing since I was born.

You country folks and your trucks! :D

A friend rode his nice touring bike from Florida to Denver today. He was a little. Jammed when I asked whether he wanted the two mile dirt road or the seven mile dirt road. He said, "is there a no mile dirt road option?" Not to my house, baby!

County didn't grade on Monday like they usually do either. Someone must be on vacation this week. Haha. He said the washboard wasn't "too bad" at 10 MPH. Haha.

I have nothing against econoboxes and there's a bunch out here, but they don't have any suspension components left after about three years. The Subaru probably needs struts. It rides better with them dead. LOL.

You need a lift. Ask Ted for recommendations.

Ted could probably suggest things I would love and my wallet would whine about and my wife would whine even louder about. Haha.

Got a "reasonable" preliminary number on consigning the fifth wheel this afternoon. Really thinking about doing it. Market is soft so it'd probably take a while to sell, but whatever. Doesn't cost my any more to park it on their lot than in the "back 40". Was kinda surprised the number wasn't owner. They also gave me a "we'd write you a check right now for it" number that was low, but that's also slightly less tempting.

Guys guys guys... Settle down. We're all friends here.

We all fly machines that burn dead dinosaurs and sprinkle lead on the peasants.

Since getting a roof rack and a small folding utility trailer I have had no needs for a pickup truck.

We aren't very bothered by it, which probably accurately shows how little we've been using it. It's great for OSH, and mostly sitting unused the rest of the year.
Sounds like my sailboat when the economy took its nosedive.. we went MONTHS without going to the marina.

a lot of my gear sits idle.
paintball
scuba
canoe/kayaks
my motorcycle did after about 5 years and the texters took over the world.
my boat did when no one else wanted to go
my inground pool sits idle even though ready to swim
My friggin cellphone and computer get a daily workout though!!

Worries me about buying a plane...there's a pattern here o_O

Yeah, ours isn't an economic thing, it's really two things. Time. That's a biggie. Especially if I teach on weekends.

But we realized something else too...

When we lived in the rat colony to the west, having a camper was to get out of the rat colony on weekends.

Now that we live out here, to get out of the rat colony, you just walk out on the deck with a cold beverage.

We didn't quite realize that when we bought it as an upgrade to the old camper a few years ago.

We rarely feel a need to "get away" from the country to go... to the country. Haha.

That's definitely one thing I like about going out to visit my mom. She lives on ~80 acres of orange trees, with a pond stocked with bass. No cell service out there either.

My buddy from Florida showed up out here with a T-Mobile phone yesterday. I just chuckled when he said it wasn't working and told him I'd turn on the guest wifi. :)

I have T-Mo, and have to hike to the top of a hill to make a call, or drive down to the bottom of the hill to the casino on the rez
