well, I did it! and have my own stalks of grass now as souvenirs. we did a flight plan to 6W6, and he decided that we would also land at clearview (v short field - 1800 feet and narrow as heck, and trees also) on the way back.

what a great day to fly! good weather, maybe a little haze inversion (did I get that term right?) but overall it was reallllly nice out. didn't see quite as many other planes out there as I thought I would though.

looks like they hadn't mowed 6W6 in a few weeks. it's kinda hard to find, too! then once I found it (with help) we dragged it, no problem... then set up for a normal landing and turned base, and I lost it again. there are barrels at one end to show the end of the runway (no they aren't lit either).

at any rate, landing was fine, kinda weird to be bumping all over the place though, you think you're doing something bad to the airplane.

then we went to clearview. so I had a "soft" field and a short field all in one day. (really short, and narrow - and trees to boot).

saw at least one balloon out as well as a paraglider. heard about skydivers on the radio but didn't see any thank God.

the flight overall was uneventful, getting a lot more confidence and when I think of where I was just this spring... wow.

325 bucks though, and this was the cheap airplane! yipes. and nary a hamburger to be found. I did have a power bar though. :)

Woohoo!!! Sounds like an awesome day of flying. The real reason any of us does it, right there.

Wasn't so bad, was it?

Landing on anything other than pavement is my favorite kind of landing. It does feel very weird the first couple of times (wait till you land on gravel), but you get used to it. Congrats!
