My 2021 Flying Map

Kinda points out to me that, in spite of them being reasonably close to my paths, I have never landed in Colorado or Nebraska. This among other states, of course. It simply surprises me.

This year involved only one New Mexico landing. Simply for fuel and move-along. Hatch and Santa Fe were shooed away by the virus.

What apps/software are you guys using to generate those maps?
If you use myflightbook, you can go to search for "previous year", go to "visited airports" and there's a button on the bottom to export a kml file, which can be opened by Google earth.

Have to get some non-PA32 fun in here. 155 on the year (personal record by about 2x), most different planes including a tail wheel and a twin, and record single leg time of 5.5 hours (no autopilot).

5.5 as a single leg? That is impressive!

edit - I figured out how to do the map! I hit 141 hours (vs 98 last year and 115 the year before). Mostly P28R, but some C172, DA40, and S22T as well.

edit 2: my longest leg last year was KLBF-KDKB 551nm in 4.0 hrs.

79.2 hours for me. longest single leg was 6.6, TJIG to KHWO. I spent about 5 months doing an engine swap, so I am hoping to get more hours this year!

I'm still early enough in my flying-for-fun career that an annual map doesn't make as much sense as a lifetime map, but did get that first Bahamas flight this year, so it's been a good one! Only 73.9 hours in 2021, but an eye towards much more in 2022.

Do you guys have jobs or are you entrepreneurs / business owners (or retired).
These are related. IWFH is quite easily changed to WFHyatt or WFFriends. I work 50-60 hours and offshore starts early, so picking a day and ending it early isn’t a big deal. So, logged off around 3 PM, airport drives each end, in bed a little after 10.

Awesome stuff. I can’t imagine having the time to pull that off.
My job has a bunch of flexibility built in. Since I own most of the projects I work on, I set the cadence and timelines. As long as the projects get done with high quality, I can do what I want. It’s still ~50 hours/week, but I can pick which 50 - especially in the remote work environment- everything we do is on zoom. And when things don’t budge, just plan a fuel stop. I stopped over at KPNT on my way to Gaston’s recently, because I had an important meeting I didn’t move. Land, shut down, zoom with background filter - done in 45 minutes, take off and continue!

I'm a full time farmer, which means I can't plan anything for 6 months of the year (of course the ones when all the fly-ins & motorcycle rallies are) but then have lots of flexibility in the summer & winter. We take a week +/- and go south in the winter, and since we got the plane are starting to do a long summer trip as well. Other things come together at the last minute. We were able to attend rough river last year because it rained the week before and we couldn't be in the field. The combination of being my own boss and having my own plane makes stuff like that possible, and makes GA somewhat practical.

Covid and rental car shortages put a major dent in my cross country trips. I usually logged 40-50 hours on my west coast trip alone. Maybe this year will be better.

I figured you’d be pretty busy selling all your rolls.

Thank you for introducing us to this mapping site. It’s interesting to go back and review the year - 135 hrs for me, primarily in a 182 and some in a 172. Here’s to many more adventures in 2022!

A lot of you guys like going to KCPS. That's one of the St Louis airports I don't have in my logbook yet. Have most of the others.

Stats for 2021:
  • 188.5 hours
  • 98.5 ASEL, 90 AMEL
  • 118.8 solo
  • 171 cross-country, of which 144.3 was at least 50 nm
  • 10.2 night
  • 96.8 tailwheel
  • 227 landings (no good ones)
  • 20.5 dual received
  • 5 different planes
  • 1 Pilots N Paws rescue
  • Went from first flight of my RV-14 on March 13 to completion of Phase I on July 23.
  • Flew the RV-14 to Oshkosh and camped/tested my tie downs.
  • Got my CPL-AMEL rating.
  • Made an epic trip with my dog, sister, brother-in-law, nephew, and two nieces. I crossed 10 states solo and 6 states with all those passengers.
  • Completed my ND Passport by landing at the last couple dozen unvisited airports in the state. They will give me the leather jacket in March.
This is not bad considering that my home airport was closed from April 1 until October 1, so I had to commute to various places where we kept our planes for the summer in order to fly, the closest being about 75 road miles away. I almost certainly spent more time on the road than in the air last year, but it was worth it.

Someone tell Foreflight to make this sort of map available from their logbook. Please Foreflight, pretty please?

My RV-8 traveling map is pretty embarrassing for 2021; only 85 hours and barely left the state of Texas.

But, it was a good year for CAF flying doing tours, rides and whatnot; the map below is roughly 120 hours in the B-17G, C-47, Twin Beech, SB2C, SNJ and T-28D. And the airline 737 map? Ehhh, don't care.

This is all we got done from mid May until the end of the year. In a rental until the end of September. Bought an airplane and its been one thing or another limiting our flying. Death in the family, 2 weeks with covid, horrible New England weather when I can fly. Airplane goes in for annual sometime in January soooo hopefully we can get some flying done in 2022...

I actually sent them this feature request a couple days ago but the more the merrier! Feature requests are super easy to make..

Another interesting option is arelplane.com which does something similar with imports from all kinds of logbook software.
