Time for a re-post. September is almost upon us! Here are the tentative particulars:

Friday, 9/17
We will come fetch you at the airport as you arrive. (Mustang Beach Airport -- KRAS) We'll do a good, old-fashioned cook-out at poolside at our motel (the Harbor Inn) at 7 PM. You can check into your rooms any time after 3 PM.

We will then sit at poolside, tell lies, and drink massive quantities of beer, wine, and other evil liquors, till the wee hours of the morning.

Saturday, 9/18
We deliver breakfast to each guest, each morning, so you don't have to worry about b'fast. Sleep late, cuz it'll be outside your door in a sealed container, waiting for you.

During the late morning, head down to the beach. Lay around. Walk the island. Borrow one of our bikes. Do whatever. Most importantly, RELAX. That is what this island is all about.

Sometime mid-day, we'll all go on a Dolphin Cruise or fishing charter. That takes a few hours, and is a lot of fun. More beer will be consumed, of course.

We will then all convene at a local restaurant for fresh seafood, more lies, and more booze. (Basically, you can plan on staying drunk for two straight days, since that's what Mustang Island is all about, too. The motto here is: "Mustang Island: A quaint little drinking village with a fishing problem...")

After THAT, we can head back to poolside, where the lies, drinking, swimming, and hot tub soaking will continue. Or, maybe we'll stop at our neighborhood bar, the "Salty Dog". Or both?

Sunday, 9/19
Well, y'all can sleep late, eat your breakfast when you wake up, spend the day on the beach, and we'll ferry you back to your planes as needed.

I don't have prices for food and the charter thing, as yet. Mary and I will supply the Friday cookout, but Saturday we'll have to all kick in something.

There you have it. No seminars. No meetings. No vendors. No pressure. Just RELAX with your fellow pilots, and enjoy the hospitality of Port Aransas and Mustang Island.

As a member of Pilots of America, you ALWAYS net a 10% savings at either of our motels -- but for this fly-in ONLY you will net a TWENTY percent (20%) discount. The room rates are as follows:

Single Queen, normally $99 -- fly-in price; $79
Double Queen, normally $109 -- fly-in discount $87
Double with kitchen, normally $119 -- fly-in discount: $95

Want to bring a pet? Add $25/night. We have some smoking-permitted rooms, too. Remember, we are NOT "aviation themed" here yet -- that's gonna take the next two years to finish. (You'll be able to say you say the "Before" look, down the road...:wink2:)

September is one of the best times to come to the island. The kids are all back in school, the weather is still nice and warm, and the restaurants and bars are MUCH easier to get into. THESE PRICES CANNOT BE BOOKED ON-LINE. Call us, toll free, at 888-671-8088 to reserve.

hmmm - I'll have to run this one by the boss. If we can make it, we'll be flying commercial, renting a car, and driving in. Might conflict with some other plans, but... maybe.

It is so Aviation Themed (tm) - the Host and Hostess BOTH wear shirts with airplanes on 'em.

Report from the scene - I am, here now!

Great folks, nice property, cool funky island. You gonna have fun!

Sounds great, Jay. We can't come this year, but we'll plan on Sept 2011. By then I'll have an IR so I won't get stuck on the island for 2 extra days.

No IR needed. I can't even remember the last non-VFR day here. I think it was in April.

Okay, it was technically VFR when I was there on July 4 weekend...one had the choice of scud running or IFR...not sure that is a good place to be without the clearance.

1000' and 3 miles wouldn't be comfortable on a trip of that magnitude (you were coming here from where again -- Denver?) -- but for most flights in Texas, if it's VFR, it's fine. Heck, it's even flatter here than it was in Iowa. :wink2:

Since that weekend, we haven't seen much in the way of weather. We could use some rain.

They will start around October/November at night... when you start getting sea fog. Usually extends about 10 miles in..

At least thats how we roll a few miles up the coast from you.

Were you able to get a price on the boat and food? Do you still have some rooms open? I'm trying to work out some folks for two rooms.

Sure, we've got rooms left! Call us at 888-671-8088.

Re: prices on charters, I'm waiting till after Labor Day to set this up. Prices go down on charters after Labor Day -- and if I book it now, we may end up paying a higher price...

It won't be a lot. Prolly the equivalent of about 5 gallons of avgas or so per person...but I'll let y'all know.

As for food, Friday night is on Mary and me. You'll only have to worry about Saturday. The most expensive place on the island is maybe $25/person, so, again, it won't be much. I'm again waiting till after all the insanity of Labor Day weekend, so that the folks I'm talking to are a bit more flexible, price-wise.

I'm thinking we'll prolly go to Port Aransas Brewery, for all the obvious reasons! It's owned by a husband/wife pilot couple, has great beer, and really, really good shrimp.
