So there are about 60 aircraft at DFW out of service currently due to hail damage from last night's storms. More than half of them have significant damage to flight control systems.

Yes Bill. I watched the storms roll in on RADAR. NEXRAD was showing purple which is tornadic from the key below. Like watching the fickle finger of fate. Some places got high winds, intense rain and hail; others watched the black (sometimes green) clouds roar over and only got lighter rain, medium winds and lots of lightening (that was the case at my house).
Makes on fee pretty helpless and even more sympathetic for those that get the full force a few blocks or a state over.

First time in the 24 years we've been in Dallas that I stocked the interior closet in preparation for a blow, including bike helmets, heavy jackets, medical stuff, etc. Three spinning circles on TV radar were tracking directly at us, and after watching the havoc in other places I decided to be ready if it happened. Fortunately, they turned a bit south and then dissipated without causing much damage.

A friend in the airshow business had a CRJ flight (as pilot) out of DFW but after loading the plane lightning in the area had the ramp crew evacuate. So they were sitting at the gate waiting for things to clear up when the hail hit. Plane had to be unloaded and taken out of service for damage inspection. Not a good day.

I prefer earthquake's, they're not seasonal like you guys have to go through every year. The threat of the big one pales in comparison to your tornadoes and hurricanes, and of course even the incessant rain of Washington states north coast is by far better.
