I was notified today that my current CFI is leaving our flight school and will only contract directly with me and not through the flight school. He is already my third flight instructor and I just soloed and don't want to have to start all over again with a new CFI.

Of course my flight school would want me to stay with them and find a new instructor who would have to get checked out in my plane. My instructor wants me to continue with him but he would change airports and I would have to fly solo to him to meet him for lessons. (which I kind of like )

I'm beginning to think I should just find an accelerated program and knock the rest out ASAP. My time is very flexible and am using my plane so I'm only limited by weather and instructor availability. My flight school feels it will take me at least 6 more weeks to finish and that seems like a long time if I am willing to fly all weekend plus 4 hours twice a week.

My other concern is that the flight school has DPEs and I don't want to mess that up for my check ride either!

Ugh. Just when things started to come together this little wrench got thrown in my gear box.

If you like your current instructor and feel comfortable flying solo to meet him I would do that. Like you said, changing instructors can mean repeating some of what you've already done and it sounds like you want to move forward quickly. 6 weeks seems plenty fast going from first solo to check ride so I don't know how much time you'll be saving by going with an accelerated program. Just my $0.02.

Your the customer pick whatever works best for you, keep personality out of the decision.

If you got along with your current CFI, just stick with him, it'll be easier and cheaper in the end of the game.

Changing CFIs is a pain in the arse and always costs you extra hours & money.

As for DPEs, doesn't matter as long as you're trained to the PTS.
