Moving To California

LOL, tell me more? I have lived here for 22 years. I have never experienced a rolling brownout or blackout. And no, I don't own a generator or live off grid. Not saying they haven't happened but, I don't think they happen very frequently or widespread.

Edit: looks like you are confusing California with Tennessee. hehehe

Yeah, it always cracks me up to see people write about how everyone is leaving CA and that no one wants to live there, and completely ignoring the fact that the reason it is expensive is because of good ole capitalism. Demand is higher than supply, so prices get pushed up. If everyone were actually leaving, you'd be able to buy a beautiful large home in CA for $250-350K, like you can in Georgia, because demand is low in Georgia and supply outpaces it.

Yogi Berra quote (real or not): "Nobody goes there anymore. It's too crowded."

This looks like a 'drop the nuke and run' thread, but I'll bite anyway. California? There's lots to be desired, but I'd say there's an equal amount of undesireable traits that would keep me out. The political scene has just gotten out of control. It's a beautiful place, no doubt about that, but COL + State Politics is enough to drive most out and keep the others from ever considering it as a place of residence.
Nah, I'm still here

Copying NoBShere - I think you may have meant TX…

nope. I said California. and I meant California.

(never said it didn't happen anywhere else - but for sure and for certain it happens in California).

We haven't had a good State Bashing session lately. And my sanity hasn't been questioned publicly in awhile, so. Really, I am emigrating to California.

Where in California?

If you haven't seen the "Californians move to Texas" videos, the first episode is here:

They're hysterical, and each only a couple of minutes long. I particularly recommend the first two in the series, "Moving Day" and "The Cookout".

Jerry Brown was a hard line Marxist by his own admission. But he was somewhat intelligent and realized that he did have to tolerate private industry in order to preserve and further the State's agenda. The thing with Gavin Newsom is that people mistake charisma, good looks and success with intelligence and competence, and he is neither. He's part of the same Nancy Pelosi/George Soros political machine that Jerry Brown was but I don't think even he himself understands his own political roots. He's destroyed more lives and businesses during the covid reaction than any wildfire or earthquake ever will.

umm, I agreed that they have occurred but thanks for sending three links where two are to same event and the first one referenced the event in the other links. What I don’t agree with is that it’s specific to California or that any one individual is significantly impacted. I could have used Texas as an example but, that’s too easy.

California is a big state with many regional differences. I moved here six years ago. There are plusses and minuses, most of which have been discussed and are true.

I can't resist...

Andrew Condron, 41 Royal Marine Commando, elected to stay in California after the Korean War cease fire in 1953. From Wiki, he was disillusioned with the reality compared to the promise, began drinking heavily, and returned to the UK in 1960.

I wish you much better luck with your journey. In some cases it might be easier to enter than exit. Like the Eagles song.

I am born and raised in Minnesota. I mention that so you know what crazy tribe I come from. Moved to Sonoma County in 1991 and left it in 2017. I am back in Minnesota. I have traipsed all over California for business and pleasure and flown over all of it. Parts of it are so conservative that is makes Alabama look looney leftie. Other parts, like San Francisco, are just plain whacko. I loved the food, the wine, and the weather. I came to hate the nanny state and the cost of living. Retiring there didn't seem reasonable to me. Like many, I cashed out of my California home for some place cheaper. No regrets that I spent time in California and not regrets that I am back home.

There must be some kind of sublime, euphoric, happiness-inducing thing there, to make you migrate to that ****hole.

Eventually, whatever buffer you have from the hell that good people suffer there will disappear and you will regret the move.

Good luck. I hope you survive...

I spent the first 22.5 years of my life in what was California.

I luckily escaped just in time to miss the progressive decay of paradise. The only reason my siblings still live there is Prop 13. When the ruling mob decides to repeal that property tax freeze, they will no longer be able to stay.

If you’ve LIVED there and have an opinion, then fine. If you’ve VISITED there and have an opinion of what it’s like to LIVE there, it’s no more relevant than my opinion of living in MS, AL, or LA (OK - for the latter, I was born there, lived there before kindergarten, and have visited family there often but I know that’s not the same experience as living there as an adult). If you’ve done neither, it’s no different than how North Koreans speak about living in the US of A: heavily based on propaganda.

Trust me, there will be bloodshed over that one.

@luvflyin it could be worse. You could've said you were moving to West Virginia. Or Illinois.

whoa whoa whoa! West Virginia is great! Lived in New Martinsville. Fond memories of hanging out at the Dairy Queen. Best state for wild ramps. Some of the best catch phrases:

Wild Wonderful, West Virginia
Almost Heaven, West Virginia
Ain’t No Luv’n like West Virginia Luv’n

what do you get when you have room full of West Virginians?…A full set of teeth.

Backpacking in the Monongahela National Forest. Had a bear sleep next to my tent one night, smelled like crap, scared me to death,

like others have said, lots of great places. Focus on the right stuff and everywhere can be fun. Or you can live through the internet and worry your life away. Choose wisely!

The Blue Ridge Mountains and the surrounding parts of Tennessee, Kentucky, North Carolina and West Virginia has to be some of the most beautiful country on Earth. I'm more of a desert Southwest person, but having grown up surrounded by mountains and forests, I could put up with West Virginny no problem.

When the ruling mob decides to repeal that property tax freeze, they will no longer be able to stay.
That might be enough to drive me out too, but I doubt it will ever happen.

Didn't read all comments so maybe something along the lines has been said already. I see California as nothing more than a gigantic national park. It's great to visit, lots of things to see, beautiful scenery, great weather most of the time, some nice cities to visit... But, I wouldn't want to live there unless someone pays me A LOT of money. Every time I visit California I'm glad I do, but I'm always equally happy when I leave the state for more sane places like Florida or Texas.

Hi.
Can you speak Spanish, Vietnamese, are you Illegal, if the answer is No to any, you may want to think again, you are not a very good fit.

KSBA is a nice airport and the area around is nice. Good for flying and you can get a variety of environments that you can enjoy, if you like skiing is not very far, hiking, beach walking. I think it can be a good change given where you come from.

The BAD you already know, and I am a lousy typist and will likely never finish everything I could post, but maybe some day, maybe, some will awake up and start thinking for themselves rather than just listen to the TV readers, and the Hollywood degenerates.

CA has a lot of government, no matter where one lives inside the border. Yeah, likely a trend most anywhere.

For me the choice of States I would ever move to get fewer every year. I agree, no need for all of us to want the same things.

OBTW, I used to visit friends in Alturus, CA, East of Redding. One could think you were in MT, of course it was inside the State line. I reckon they would like to join ID along with those counties from OR.

California is one of a handful of states I have lived in and would be willing to live in. The majority of the country is a hard no-go for me.

If it were simply supply

But people are leaving. In droves. And you can't say it's just supply and demand when cities are paying ridiculous wealth and transaction taxes.

Income tax in California is what? like 13%?
Politics there sucks, at least if you believe in anything like the constitution. Gun laws there suck.

I left Colorado. Colorado is a very beautiful state, at least the western half. But, the government corruption, traffic, liberalism, is over the top. Read the Aspen paper on any given day and it will have at least a couple of articles that will leave you shaking your head. There are a lot of people there that want full blown communism, with people begging for socialism every day. Steal from the rich and give to the poor, its everywhere in western Colorado. I loved the mountains, excellent whitewater rafting, world class fishing, world class skiing, excellent hunting (not anymore), great weather, and great flying opportunities. Moderate income tax, but high sales tax, high vehicle registration fees, too many people, too much traffic, too many people expecting to have everything without working for it. I'll never go back.

And the people that changed that came from...yep.
