If you want to be both mesmerized watching someone play, and severely ticked off (if you’re a guitar player), just try to learn a Bill Mize fingerstyle guitar song...

Or just give up and enjoy, since he won multiple national fingerstyle guitar championships. :)

Then you watch this kid do it who’s bored for half of the song, and throw your guitar in the trash and take up stamp collecting, or something. LOL.

Bill has a really cool take on the James Gang classic, Funk #49 on acoustic, too. Different!

Turns out that’s not Bill playing in the top one, but the person covering him does it nearly as well as he did.

Gah. All these good players... :)

Some nice picking, for sure. I prefer the hard drivin’ sound of full-on, three chords and a cloud of dust, downhill freight train, traditional Bluegrass. :)

Bluegrass is great. The problem, around these parts, is if you go to a "bluegrass" festival, it'll be mostly gospel.

WTF?

Since when does gospel = bluegrass????

I hate gospel. It ain't bluegrass.

The harmonies in Bluegrass were largely influenced by old church hymns.

So? Rock and roll was an offshoot of blues, but that doesn't mean they're the same in most regards.

In that case though, I like both.

If I want to be preached at and told how much of a worthless heathen I am, then I'd go to church (or have remained married!), not a bluegrass festival.

That kids fingers are freakishly long. I can barely get my hand around the strings on my guitar.

Ah...he's a youngster! When I was exposed to him 30-some years ago, I guess he seemed older because he was twice my age. ;)
I first saw him in 1971 in the ballroom in the student union. Less than 50 folks sitting around on the floor and guy in a chair with several guitars. Denver will be my 6th (I think).
