Had my class 1 medical exam with AME on 3/25/23. Called Cami last week and said same as website, application has been received. Deferral due to needed wavier for mono vision (Vision one eye) as well as ocular hypertension (type of glaucoma) in same eye only. Medication is FFA approved per AME and pressures are acceptable per FAA standards and confirmed due to 24-2 Humphrey fields visual test. Is there anyway to know roughly how long Cami will take for the application to go from received to in review, and to know how long these type of wavier decisions take these days?

Most likely this will be 2-3 months in review. The actual review doesn't take that long, but they have a massive backlog. The best thing you can do is be as prepared as possible before the exam so that you can have all of your documentation ready. That way when they finally get to the review, they have all the information they need vs sending you a letter asking for more info.

It sounds like you were well prepared. However, you will likely be denied for the monovision and your AME will need to request a Medical Flight Test for the monovision. So don't be surprised if you are denied for the monovision. Just keep following the process for the Medical Flight Test to get a Statement of Demonstrated Ability (SODA).

Good luck.

I have prepared and sent in all the documentation I could gather from my various doctors that I could find. I understand it comes down to what the Flight surgeon wants in terms of their requested documentation if it comes to they need more for whatever reason. Also yes I am aware I will most likely receive a letter of denial to request the medical flight test to be able to show the FAA I can safely fly and land a plane in order to then be granted my medical to then be able to solo and then get a private pilot license.
Thank you for the prompt reply. Does calling every couple weeks make the process any quicker or at this point all I can do it wait and study while learning to fly? Given the Cami backlog

In general you will not get any additional information by calling than what is displayed in your MedXPress.

But what you can tell by calling is if you documents are visible yet (as opposed to “Something was received”.

Nothing happens until they can see the documents….and it is THE WORST waiting on something they’ve mislaid/lost….it’s more common than one might think. :(
