Mogas on tap at your airport?

The Avgas sales decline discussion prompts this question: Where are people getting Avgas (or Diesel) at airports? I have never asked my FBO as I assumed they just don't carry it. Do some FBOs have this on tap? How does one find out other than calling the FBOs?

You would have to find out from your operator at the FBO if they supply any. Chances are even if they did, most pilots buy it from the gas station down the road and bring it to the airport.

100ll.com and airnav.com

I've gone on formation cross-countries with people and the only places we would stop were places that have MOGAS. Starting to pop up more and more as LSAs are becoming more popular.

Select mogas, enter your location, and search. This generates seven airports located within 100 NM of my home. It does not indicate a private club with its own airstrip that I belong to that also has mogas.

Average price is $4.08 at the airports indicated on that list. I can see the incentive this gives you to pump at a local station at about half that cost, and truck the fuel yourself to your hangar.

We don't have it on tap in Shawnee, mostly because the tanks and installation are pretty expensive and we already have a pretty hefty fuel inventory. While there is some demand for it here, the tenants that do want to use it bring it in themselves on tanks on their trucks.

Currently, 100LL is $4.70/gal self serve, $4.95/gal full serve.
Jet A is $4.65/gal self serve, $4.75/gal full serve.

I have fueled two whole planes in the last two weekends. Send help

There are 2 near me in Sacramento...but they are inland seaports and more expensive than full service 100LL.

I have two 5 gallon jerry-cans that I stop and fill on the way to the airport. If I need more than that I'll get some 100LL. If I'm out and about on a x-country I generally try to get Mogas if they have it but more times than not I end up getting 100LL in order to be neighborly and give some business to the FBOs.

My local airport has it on the self service pump on the field. I know of a few people running mogas and they all fill up cans at the gas station on the other side of the road because its 50 cents a gallon cheaper. (and/or they are using it in unapproved aircraft and don't want to enter an n number on the pump):nono:

I got a 60 gallon truck bed tank so I can fill up at the pump in town. We don't have fuel on the field, so it's no less convenient to do my own fueling, and half the price. Plus I'll have 1500 mile range in the truck for road tripping. Now I just need the Mogas STC.

MoGas is available at one of my airports; H88, but it's over $4/gal. I can buy 93 octane 0E on the street for $2.65.

Guess which I do!?!?

Nearest one to me is El Dorado, KS (EQA). They have self serve MoGas for $3.45/gallon. Self serve 100LL for $4.00/gallon.

Local 0E 87 octane is $2.35. Local 0E 92 octane is something like $2.55.

Cut the 87 with 110 octane half and half, and you are still over the octane needed for a 160 HP O-320.

No STC for my plane so I can't use it.
