I just finished a rebuild of a site, and the new one includes a mobile version. I'd appreciate quick glances from various mobile devices to make sure it's rendering properly. Thanks!

Looks good on Windows Phone.

I'd consider switching to one of the prepaid carriers if they'd start carrying Windows Phone devices.... ;)

Thanks, everyone.

I asked the client about Windows phones. He said he'll check on it. If I had to guess, I'd say T-Mobile probably does. They support everything else...

Personally, I love the service. I have T-Mobile prepaid on my BlackBerry, with unlimited everything, except that I only get 100 MB of data at 4G speed. I pay $60.00 a month, including full BIS support, which I think is pretty darn good.

I could add on unlimited 4G if I wanted, but 3G is enough for my needs; and the tower closest to my home out here in the sticks only supports EDGE, anyway. That actually works out fine for me because when I test mobile sites on my BBerry, I'm testing them at a lower speed, which I think is better. It helps keep my mobile coding and designs lean.

I just learned that T-Mob has a Windows Phone (the Lumia 710, IIRC). Unfortunately, where I live, only Verizon's network is good enough to keep me happy. Therefore, I'm stuck with them. I've heard that Walmart's prepaid (Straight Talk?) has phones that will work on GSM networks, and phones that will work on Verizon's network, but I want a Windows Phone (I've deved a coupld of WP apps). Problem is that even the prepaids that use CDMA phones generally work best on Sprint's network, and that's no good for me, either. Since I use a lot of data, I need 3G (currently no 4G at in my area), and when you use a Sprint device on Verizon's network (if you can get it to work), it's a lot slower, at least in the couple devices I tried. If you have a line on a prepaid that works well on Verizon's network, I'd be interested in hearing about it so I can watch them for what I want. Yes, I'm picky - been using smart phones since the first gen Windows Mobile devices, and Palm (non-phones) before that, dating back to 99.

Okay, I'll keep my ears open.

I suppose I should provide a disclaimer because I actually carry ads for both TracFone and Straight Talk on some of my sites, although they're just ads. I don't get involved in the transactions.

StraightTalk is actually owned by TracFone, which is an MVNO with multiple network agreements (Sprint and Verizon for CDMA, and AT&T and T-Mobile for GSM). It seems that they assign the preferred provider for a given device based on the coverage quality where the account is activated. If equal, they choose the less-expensive carrier for the phone's protocol (Sprint for CDMA, T-Mobile for GSM).

My neighbor found this to be true when he bought a phone at Wal-Mart and had them activate it there at the store. Both T-Mobile and AT&T have service there, but AT&T's signal is much stronger; so his phone got assigned AT&T as its preferred provider. The problem is that where we live, we have T-Mobile, so he gets no data services here (he does get voice and SMS).

So I imagine if StraightTalk comes out with a Windows phone (rather unlikely, but it could happen), the trick would be to activate it in an area that only has a Verizon signal (no Sprint service). I think that would force the phone to activate on Verizon.

Whether it would work as well as a native Verizon phone (or whether a Verizon phone could be made to work on Straight Talk), I have no idea.

Thanks, Rich. I didn't realize that about being activated with one or another preferred provider. Good info to know.

I agree that it is unlikely that StraightTalk will come out with a Windows Phone, but I'm still hoping for one day... ;) I also didn't realize StraightTalk was owned by TracFone. I thought I had heard that it was owned by Walmart.

Thanks for the info.

Here ya go Rich... from iPad.

Okay, thanks. I may increase the "max-width" attribute to accomodate iPads and other tablets with wider screens.

-Rich

EDIT: Then again, those with iPads (and presumably other tablets) can just view the full site. So maybe I'll leave it be.

I'd dump the black background first. That's very 90's sheik. ;)

But at least there aren't any blink tags or cute animated "Under Construction" GIFs. :) :) :)

Well, I was thinking of adding a few animated sparkles here and there...

The odd color scheme kind of evolved around the client's specification that colors from all of the vendors' logos / sites be integrated into the design.

Excellent. I noticed that it had line breaks at the same words / spots regardless if I was viewing it in landscape vs portrait, leaving black borders down the edge instead of utilizing the space. Could mean the difference between having to scroll down vs. not.

That's something I have to look at. There shouldn't be any breaks other than paragraph breaks. Maybe I have an unnecessary width attribute somewhere in the CSS.

LOL Nate!

Oh dear. Read this before you go any further! :D

Rich, (gee, now we're up to 3 Riches in this thread!)

Over on one of the Mac forums, one member has been pleased with Page Plus Cellular. They're a VZW reseller. Might look into them.

You beat me to it. ;)

LOL. I know, it's gaudy-looking and retro. But sometimes you have to go with the flow. The client likes it, his customers like it (according to him), and I can live with it; so everyone's happy.

Thanks. Good old fashioned typos on my part.

EDIT: I found the l/c "states" but not the "whv." Where did you see that?

Right at the top "Whv Prepaid is better" in the red letters.

Okay, that must have been an Apple rendering issue because it wasn't a typo. Still important to know, though.

I'm assuming that the bottom of the "y" was getting cut off by the next menu line, so I increased the line height for that section. That should fix it.

Thanks again.

Not yet, the bottoms of the lower case 'p's in that box are also cut off.
