This guy had three local airports named after him: Richards Field (closed), New Richards Field (renamed to Charles Wheeler - MKC), and Richards-Gebauer (closed).

It's a long read, but very interesting to get more info on just how bad the WW I aircraft really were.

By the way, anyone planning a stop in KC should visit the WW I museum. It is outstanding.

+1 on the WW1 museum. And a quick cab ride from MKC. Well worth the visit. Get some BBQ too.

It's a shame that MKC no longer bears his name, nice find!
