Nope, not the state, the river. Next June, I'm putting in at Fort Benton, MT and doing 149 miles of the Upper Missouri river in a canoe. Trying to decide whether to pack the plane full of gear, fly out and rent a canoe, or bring my own and drive it. Looks like another solo trip for me as everyone I've asked so far has declined. Should be a good 7 or 8 days of getting away from everything.
 
Sounds nice. I used to do backpacking trips the same way. The one nice thing about solo travel is you don't have to worry about anyone's schedule but yours. Can't imagine it would cost much to rent a canoe.
 
I'm too lazy to play with Google maps distance. Where will your take-out be?

$25-$75/day depending which one you get.

Average current on this section of the the river is 3 kts. Even if I laid back and did nothing but steer, I could drift my 25miles a day I want to cover and have plenty of light to make camp and a fire. I figure 4-5 hours of paddling a day with plenty of time to relax and find firewood.
