Minnesotans forced to drink good beer

From your title, I thought they banned American beer and forced them to import from up north.

I think you missed a step. How does Michelob Golden Light equal good beer? Might as well put ketchup on a hot dog if you think that Michelob Golden Light is beer. Let alone good beer. :D:D

Calling Michelob Golden Light a good beer is like calling a watery cucumber a banana.

Minnesota waters down their beer to 3.2% alcohol anyway... So to them, Michelob Golden Light probably IS good beer.

Most Beer sold in Minnsota is not 3.2.

Only if you buy it in a gas station. Get it in a liquor store or in a bar and it'll be the real deal.

Thanks Jesse I hit post to soon I planed on adding more.
Guess to much American beer that I can see through.

And meanwhile, Wisconson is trying to make folks drink bad beer.

May as well put ketchup IN the beer.

I suppose if you're gonna have a dog with ketchup, you may as well wash it down with a MGL.

Not my cuppa, for sure... but it's better than Bud, FWIW. :D

DUDE - 3.2 - WTF?

Petaluma's Lagunitas Brewing Company has a "limited release" out now in stores with about 10 (or more) ABV. And The Bear Republic's "Racer Five" beer is between 7-9 ABV. Chimay is really high too . . . you people are wusses with 3.2 - !

<points at Minnesota> No, THEY'RE the wusses. I live in Beertown. The Brew City. We don't have silly laws like that. Booze up!

I don't even have to play that video. Lewis Black (and others) is one of my all time favorite stand up comedians, though his "old stuff" (think: airport security jokes) is better than his new stuff. I saw him live and was disappointed.

When did you see him?

I saw "Red, White, and Screwed" (2006?) on YouTube and thought that was pretty damn funny. I saw him live once about 10 years ago. And his railing on Glenn Beck from a few months ago was an instant classic.

I suspect this is but the beginning of the fallout from the Minnesota state government shutdown.

I see your Petaluma "stuff" and raise you: Surly.

You live in LaCrosse, WI now? I thought you were living in Milwaukee. The city of former breweries.
Milwaukee still has Miller and Sprecher breweries. What do they brew in LaCrosse?

Looks interesting. Founder's brewery in Grand Rapids Michigan occasionally brews a batch of specialty beer that would make that look pretty tame. Perhaps EdFred can give an example. I would but my work computer network filters out all brewery links.

As I am not a beer drinker (haven't found any that I like) I couldn't tell you squat about the local brewery creations.

Ah, I'm glad you asked. Unfortunately, the G. Heileman Brewing Company is no longer (former brewer of Old Style, which is now brewed by Pabst - it's a mad, mad, mad world). However, the facility was purchased by City Brewing Company, which is using most of the facility brewing dozens of beers, teas, malt beverages, energy drinks, etc. Think Mike's Hard Lemonade, Arizona Tea, etc. City Brewing Company purchased the old Rolling Rock facility in Latrobe, PA, and I think is brewing Sam Adams and other such beers there. So, City Brewing Co is a contract brewer, and doesn't own the trademarks or intellectual property of the beverages it makes. http://www.citybrewery.com/default.aspx

The World's Largest Six Pack still exists, but even THAT has been rebranded: http://www.roadsideamerica.com/news/8137

Madness!

Sprecher still has the best root beer, hands down, anywhere! I think you are right about City Brewing making Sam Adams. But I think they only make that in LaTrobe now.

Another big brewery is in Monroe, WI and of course there are small breweries all over the state, New Glarus comes to mind. Milwaukee is a former power house of breweries. But really only has the major Miller Brewing company now. It is sad to see the empty Pabst and Schlitz breweries.

The only people drinking 3.2% beer in Minnesota are the ones that are too dumb to go to the liquor store to get the real deal.

There are some very good microbrews in SE mo (Ste. Genevieve County) amongst all the wineries. Most of them are also pushing 10% AC. You gotta be careful.

I might have told this story here before (if I have just tell me to shut up).

A few years when I was working in Appleton, WI, I heard on the local news that the state of WI had formed a DWI commission to study WI's DWI problems and make recommendations to the legislature. At that time (IIRC) WI was the only state without a felony DWI law. They read off the names of those on the commission. The names included the likes of Leinenkugel & Miller. I chucked and mumbled "yeah, like they're really going to get things done" :)

Tim, is Lambert's the "throwing rolls" place? I've seen the billboards down I-55 over the last couple of months. I take it it's not a place to stop for lunch?

That's the one. There's one in Sikeston, One north of Branson and one in Alabama (or is it Mississippi?). There may be others.

You can stay at home and save a lot of money...just take a tub of Crisco, heat it up, and drink it.

Same thing!

Actually, the food's pretty good for "that type" of food. Your arteries will start hardening before you even get your car parked though.

To each his own but I'd like to live long enough and be healthy enough to enjoy retirement. Of course everyone has their weaknesses...this is coming from he who just ate two chicago style hotdogs for lunch! But that's a very rare event (& I love 'em!).

By the way, Stan,

To complete this hijack...

Wisconsin has the best people and best cities of any state I've lived in (and that's probably about 30 now).

The people are genuine and have a work ethic second to none (except for possibly South Dakotans). Get into a conversation with a Wisconsinite and you'll know exactly who you're talking to within 30 minutes. Very few are running around pretending to be somebody they're not like so many people are in so many other states.

The cities (especially Madison and Mikwaulkee) are really nice. Madison is one of my favs.

FWIW

Amen.

People in WI are REAL. I think it has something to do with dying if you go outside for 5 out of every 12 months. :D

As much as I joke about now being a pickup-truck-driving, cowboy-hat-wearing, gun-toting Texan, Mary and I are always proud to tell people that we were born and raised in Wisconsin.

Tim,

I am impressed. If they sell it in California, I'll look for it next time. We have some very special beer warehouses out here (Bottle Barn in Santa Rosa) with a huge selection of very special beer.

Y'all may not realize it, but shortly after this was announced, the governor said he would reconsider the Republican proposal to solve the budget crisis; it really brought things to a head <g>

The Russian government learned the hard way that you never want to cut the proletariat off from their alcohol.

Best,

Dave

Yeah, we've lost some big ones - Or they've outright gone out of business. But we do have Miller, Sprecher, Lakefront, and Horny Goat. And while they're not headquartered here, Leinenkugel's has a brewery in Milwaukee (which used to be used by G. Heilemann to produce Blatz). Add in the brewpubs like Water Street Brewery and the Milwaukee Alehouse (and many more), the beer is flowing freely here.

And, BTW, La Crosse lost their major brewery (G. Heilemann) too, so...

Back to wossy beers any one look at the label for Miller Genuine Draft 64 2.8%.
