Never good ,hope he recovers quickly ,and can fly again.
 
Wow, how your life can change in a moment...wish him well, seems like he's got a good outlook on it.
 
Compartment syndrome can be fatal.

We almost lost a BMW rider after a minor tumble. Nothing more than a bruise, until he fainted later and could have died.

It kind of behooves everyone to Google it so as to recognize the signs.

Oh, and good luck to Miles - sounds like he's taking it well.
 
Wow, that's tough, waking up from surgery without an arm, when he expected to wake up with a working arm.

Anyone know what kind of plane he owns?

Unless something has changed, he has a Cirrus.
 
Not to make light of Mr. O'Brien's situation but I learned how to fly as a below-knee amputee, have held up to a First Class medical, and have flown more than 33 make/models over the last 28 years from ultralights to monster single-engine turboprops, even a helicopter, and I fly taildraggers and aerobatics.

An arm is of course a bit different than a leg but where there's a will there is almost always a way. Brian Thomas here (bnt83) who is an arm amputee himself has already chimed in, on CNN in fact, about the possibility of recovery.

Gimp, it is near certain that if he wants to and works at it, that Miles will fly again.

Flying a Cirrus, with a sidestick on the left side, will take some serious working around, with lots of paperwork to be reviewed by lots of people. Sure, he can always fly it from the right since that is a right stick, but then the radios will be tough to work.

Best wishes to Miles during his recovery, saw him on TV the other day. I have no idea how he managed to tie his tie by himself. All it takes is lots of willpower and work, and some friendly support.
 
Didn't 'House; have compartment syndrome in the leg and thats why he has all the pain?
