I'm using this to do my checkbook balancing. Works great. I have it installed on the desktop, but I fear the desktop is about to die so I am trying to install it on the laptop. Both are running Windows 10.

The install went fine, but there is NO menu item anywhere that I can find to open the data file. At all. It displays a bunch of videos and gives you currency calculators, stock quotes, etc but no way to set up, or access accounts. It will let you sign in using an MSN account but that does not seem to affect it.

All attempts to Google have yielded that it should be able to open the .mny file, using >file >open but there is no >file that is apparent anyplace.

Any ideas?
 
Do u have the actual file located locally? What if u dbl click it or rite click and ‘open with’?
 
have you tried typing in the application name in the windows 10 search box next to the start menu button?
 
When you loaded the software did you copy it from the desktop pc or use the original discs. It may be that you need to manually copy the file from the old pc and load it in the same directory on the laptop.

I will try that when I have access to the computer on which the data file resides and I can grab it.

No, but I don't have a problem accessing and starting the program.

There were no discs. Originally, the licensed Money was part of an MS Works and those disks are long gone. The version on the desktop was downloaded directly from the Microsoft website as a free sunset edition offered without support, this was a few years ago. That particular one was not supported by Windows 10 however there was a work around solution to make it run. The version I downloaded for the laptop appears to be an updated version of that, which is purported to be able to open the data file but with some reduced functionality, sans features I don't use anyway.

If all fails, I will probably be on the lookout for a replacement solution. Something like quicken is way overkill. I just need something that does transaction reconciliation and balancing. That's it. I don't feel like going back to a spreadsheet as I'm sure there must be options out there, hopefully free.
 
Yeah really. Discs ain't happening on the laptop. Anyway, as an update, the mystery is solved. The MS support page indicates that personal finance tracking is no longer a function. Like, WTF. All it is now is some kind of news app. I already deleted it. I am on the lookout for an alternative.

One thing to consider with Quicken, is the online integration to many (most?) banks. Reconciliation can be automated. It honestly isn't hard to figure out.

I did take a look at it. It would probably work okay but it wasn't exactly what I'm looking for.
 
Well, neither one of those was quite what I was looking for. Ace money would have been the better choice for me but I managed to find a download site for the old version of Money. So I'm good to go.
