Mexican drug smugglers using Ultralights

Border Patrol agents seized more than 800,000 pounds of pot in Arizona during the 2008 fiscal year. That represented a downward trend from the previous year, suggesting fewer drugs are being brought in.
Of course, had they seized more than the prior year, it would represent an improvement in the border patrol's interdiction efforts! :nono::D

The obvious solution is to hire GA pilots to patrol the border in the air. :D

Or perhaps a few MQ-9 Reapers.

Wait... looks like there are already 5 in commission by Customs and Border Protection.

I do note that there aren't any weapon systems... yet.

Or would it be "Cualquier tráfico en el área, aconseja por favor"?

(sorry, my translsation might not be quite right...)

No no no.... its

"Yaaarrrrrriiiibaaa!!! Ay i i i! Taco y burrito, por favore!"

how the hell does an F-16 intercept an ultralight.

He pulls her straight up, right in front of the ultralight and ignites the afterburner. :D :yikes:
The ultralight then turns immediately into one large joint! :yesnod:

Ahh, the war on drugs. Given the number of people and the amounts of drugs that get in, the ultralight pilots must be real loosers.

Looks like stall speed is about 85 - 90 knots on an F-16, so... carefully?
Most ultralights aren't going to get ANYWHERE near 85 to 90 knots. They'll also be flying so low that I doubt any fighter pilot would seriously consider trying to slow to their speed.

I think the 'intercept' mostly means that they get a visual on them and should be able to track them to landing where they can be physically intercepted.

That's why I said carefully ;) But yeah, it was probably more about making it obvious they were there to convince the gnat to go back south.

So future ultralights don't need chaff and flares? I wanted to see them toss a road flare or rolls of foil while turning inside the missile.

I find it a bit absurd how much money and resources we spend fighting a plant...
