Love Merlins! Found two videos of great interest. The first is historical footage of how they BUILT them (I wonder if any of the molds/castings are still around); the 2nd is a guy who put a Merlin V12 in a highly modified '55 Chevy... now THAT they need to get out to AirVenture!

I just loved the TOTAL lack of ANY safety equipment, even pouring molten aluminum. Proves you can win a war without OSHA.

Fixed that for ya. ;)

We likely would have lost WWII if the same safeguards that we have today were in place then. Pilots today would not do half the things pilots did back then.

and I know a guy here in town who's dad was an instructor in T-6's. He twice applied for combat duty because he thought it was safer.

I love the coats, hats, and ties on the shop floor. those guys dress to impress!
