Medication question

I have a 3rd class special issuance medical certificate for diabetes and high bp. Both are very well controlled through oral meds/diet/exercise (recent a1c 5.5). The question is that my bad cholesterol is higher than my doc would like for diabetics and wants to start me on med.

What medications are acceptable to FAA and do I need to ground if I go on this new medication?

There is no diagnosis of heart disease.

Any insigh would be greatly appreciated.

If You are an AOPA member, their medication database can be very helpful.

I take Pravastatin and it's an accepted medication.

The status letter just includes a simple statement that I take it for cholesterol, the dosage & frequency, it's well tolerated and no side effects. A copy of the blood labs is included. Letter and labs are provided to the AME.

If your doc wants to use something else, just have your smart phone queued up to the medications page to see if it is acceptable.

All of the HMG-Co-A inhibitors are acceptiable (Lipitor, Crestor, etc).Sor are the oral agents that adsorb cholestero in your gut.....the key is when you are handed an Rx, to NOT fill it until you have checked it out.
