I have designed a "carry on" in-flight media server with up to 12 Wi-Fi connections to stream movies to your devices (it can also be used in a car or home).

No internet connection required.

Up to 4 TB storage device to store your own content.

HDMI or Composite video connection if required.

3.5 mm connection for audio if required

Back up power supply if required during power interrupt.

Input power can be 12 vdc or anywhere from 14 - 28 vdc depending on aircraft system.

Very customizable. All for half the cost of the most basic systems on the marked now.

On Facebook, look up Volaris Media Server for more information and a demo video.

@Hank Henry - Please note that "For Sale" listings require that a price be listed.

Price range is $4000 - $6400

Still not following.

Let me ask, for people that would consider adding a media server.
What voltage input would you be using?
Would you require an interface to monitors?
Would you require interface to an audio system?
How much storage would you require (size of solid state drive)?
Would you want to have a ios device to use as a remote and streaming device included with the kit?

What do you think is a fair price?

I think you are targeting jet owners myself. Most piston singles and twin owners are not going to need this type of equipment nor would any rational owner pay those prices. I’d rather buy an iPad for each seat and have media loaded on it for a fraction of the cost.

Sell it to the kerosene guys who own old clapped out airframes as the new ones already have integrated media systems on board.

I'm having a hard time understanding how that price is anywhere near reasonable. Only thing I can reason is your just trying to sell one or two of these things to guys that are spending someone else's money.

Classic aviation ideology..... move the decimal one to the right. They will still pay it.....

The SSD drive itself is $1200, the electronics components inside are over $500, the case and all of the components for it are over $300, and the ios device is $200 - $300. Then everything has to be put together and configured. Plus sales wants commission and someone has to support it.

I have researched other servers like this and they started at $15k and could only support 2 streaming devices and one wired connection. That was the STARTING price. So I set out to create something far better and for far less. I accomplished that I jut don't know where to market it.

That why I was asking. Maybe this is overkill for these aircraft. Thanks for the feedback!

Wasn't expecting the up to 4tb of storage to be an SSD. Explains the pricing. Seems overkill to me though. Like @Unit74 said, I think the market this would be addressing would find it easier to buy an ipad and just download netflix/amazon/etc movies onto the ipad(s) directly, I know that's what I would do. If one was looking for a home media server they could set one up for $500 all in, wouldn't be super portable but still.

Most of my flying is solo. I'm not sure the FAA would be too keen on me watching a movie while flying. Seems like this device might be more suited to the jet crowd.

I can't seem to find any good forums for that. Thanks again!

R&D rule #1: Find the market, then build the product for it. Not the other way around.

I thought I did but things fell through.

Amen to that. I'd amend it to read, "Find the market, understand the market, then build the product for it." Plenty of little niches in the aviation market that exist simply because no one would even consider buying from an unknown firm with no track record and, say, no FAA approvals.
