So didn't pass med 3, what if not interested in pursuing deferral? between color blind and some past episodic depression/grief, feels like 2 strikes

I don't want to get false hope.

Already accepted my fate and quit school, also my doctor retired so who knows the hoops to get another doctor to get records and confirm these things were life event responses and non chronic or ongoing.

Pursue or Quit for real?

Well...
What are your goals? An aviation career, or to putter about in a small plane for fun?
WHY was the class 3 deferred? The reason is important, for estimating what it'll cost to address the deferral. Color blindness is not a barrier to a PPL per se... you can accept a "no flying at night" limitation, or demonstrate that you can identify light signals at night (a SODA) -- there are plenty of colorblind pilots out there. So I'm guessing it was the depression.

It sounds as though you're looking for this group to back you up on a decision that you've already made. Or talk you out of it by reassuring you that it'll be straightforward to sort out. I'm afraid this (brutally honest) crowd is likely to do neither... to sort it out will take time, money, patience, determination, and a passion for flying strong enough to make it worthwhile. Starting with taking charge of your own situation, doing the research necessary to understand your situation. Find out how many "strikes" are really going on here. (Probably just one.)

If you're just not interested in pursuing the deferral, then that's fine too. Ultimately, it's just your call. Is aviation a passion for you worth spending the time and money, or not.

And if not interested how is that made known? Was already trying to work lessons around a crazy busy life, did not anticipate more work for a hobby. I appreciate the candid response.

Just find yourself a great ultralight and go fly ...

Becoming a pilot is a huge time, money, intellectual and emotional commitment.

it's too bad you didn't come here before applying for a medical. You might have learned some of the pitfalls of medical certification.

color vision is no problem. some past episodic depression/grief will have to be investigated if you decide to pursue an FAA medical.

Agreed, i just found this page. It was quite deflating to be deferred, and in another life i might have the time to do the leg work, i had just enough cash for pilot school and well now its half gone to a surgery my kid needs.

He has a long recovery over the next few weeks. Im typically a planner a lot of surprises all at once.

On color vision is there a functional test like driving a csr and knowimg the ATC tower candlestick is red, white, green
Like street lights are red, yellow, green.

Though i can see light colors, its those damn hue dot charts that give me grief.
