Anyone have a favorite brand of mead? I am having a few friends over for a cocktail party and the theme is drinks of the ages. I have some traditional apple jack made from George Washington's own recipe, some ciders, madera, and I thought some mead might be nice. But I do not know much about it.

I like the applejack you're talking about, I've bought it myself before.

I haven't ever tried any commercial mead, though. Then only stuff I've ever tried was home brew. I remember thinking it was a chardonnay wine until the lady that made it told me what it was.

College ruled. (The wide rule is actually hard to find anymore, which is fine by me...)

;-) Just kidding. Sure would like to try some of what you're making or buying!

Laird's http://www.lairdandcompany.com/index2.htm Good stuff, not a sweet drink, it has a brandy like finish to it.

I have found a few recipes but I was looking for more commercial stuff and just did not know what to look for or pick.

That's the only time I've ever had mead. I have thought about making it, though, but just don't have the patience.

I think you can find it in sparkling and still varieties.

Laird's is what I've bought a couple times. I might get some tonight.

It's another one of those things where you just can't place the taste until somebody tells you what it is. Then you can get a slight apple taste out of it.

Scott, I have only ever had home made mead. There is a brand Carrolls or Brother Carrolls or something like that they call it honey wine.

Redstone Meadery out of Boulder Co. has some really smooth and flavorful stuff. I get some when I go through there, since I can't get it in OK. You might be able to order it where you are.
