Match lit on Plane

You would be amazed at the stupidity of some people. I have had people come to bail out their friends and when they get there I ask for their license so I can enter the info in my report. I have had more than one that will give me the license and when I check I find they have out standing warrants. Also had a few that drove to the station drunk or with a suspended license, sometimes both.

Criminals are stupid, otherwise they wouldn't be criminals, since crime really doesn't pay until you get into the white collar crowd. Then you lobby congress to make whatever it is you're doing legal.

That said, it is really difficult to accidentally light a match. But in a nation of 300 million souls, I'm certain it happens now and again.

Sad but true.

ps. second point - would this be like butt-dialing?

Smoking is prohibited on planes, but is the same true for merely lighting a match (or a lighter)?

Fixed that for you. Just wait until you fly domestically in China.

I was thinking solely about US airlines, but you're right smoking is still permitted in other parts of the world.

Aren't all flammable materials now prohibited?

Certainly not - last I checked paper was permitted ('tis a flammable material). (yeah, I know, picky).

Seriously, though, matches and lighters are permitted.

I think matches are banned.

Not true. According to TSA, one book of non-strike anywhere matches are permitted. I doubt that's enforced.

In 1980 on an interior flight in China (Power by Ilyushin), the pax in the back lit a FIRE on the floor of the cabin to warm their tea......

I was still an active reserve flight deck officer and I nearly lost it.
