A great excuse to fly (if you need one) is coming up this Thursday (March 21, 2019). Mason City, IA (KMCW) is hosting their monthly airport BBQ, on the third Thursday of every month ("Third Thursday Burger Burn"). Given we just ended a three-month deep freeze, I expect a good turnout for this popular event. They typically attract a nice variety of airplanes (vintage and modern), and people visit from near and far.
Grills start around 6:00 PM. If you can, bring some meat for yourself to throw on the grill and a side dish to share. If you are traveling through and can't bring food, join anyways, since there is always plenty of food.
This takes place at Doug Rozendaal's hangar, on the southeast side of the airport. Depending on the conditions, you can park in the grass in front of the hangar (south of taxiway A), or park at the FBO and walk over.
