So I recently ordered some CPAP replacement parts and received a shipping invoice showing some reasonable prices (well, reasonable considering they're DME ... sort of like putting AVIATION on auto parts). But then last night I received an actual bill for these parts, and am more than just a little ticked about this...

Code:
[U]Item [/U] [U]Invoice[/U] [U]Billed
[/U]Filter, disposable $ 2.92 $ 28.20
Filter, reuseable $ 8.31 $ 45.40
Reservoir, humidifier $12.68 $113.00
--------------------- -------- --------
TOTAL $23.91 $186.60

Let's see if there's a "reasonable explanation" for this when I call this morning!

Then you'll get an "Explanation of Benefits" saying they're paying the "negotiated" price of $69.67 and they come after you for the rest...

I wonder if this is anything like quoted insurance price of recommended surgery being $8900 while the cash price is $3700.

The scandal is if you have insurance the hospital and doctor grudgingly takes the "negotiated" $3700. If you're working poor without insurance they hound you for the full $8900 - no negotiation - until you go bankrupt.
