Landed yesterday at March Air Reserve Base (KRIV) for first time. March Approach had me squawk 1034 and land on runway 32 left. No other pilots at Million Air and staff were nice but avgas expensive($6.25) and there's $10 landing/service fee. But still a cool experience looking at those military planes out my windows. :)

Nice!

For future reference, you were allowed to land there because it's joint military/public use. Not all reserve bases are like that. For example, the JRB here in Fort Worth is not open to public, but you can shoot approaches to mins and overfly the runway. Just don't land.
 
Same at the Shuttle Landing Facility in Florida - you can do a low approach, but don't touch down.
 
always. But you can land at a military base if you have permission. A club trip several years ago was to the Cherry Point MCAS.

Yep, I got to land at WPAFB. I wish they'd have a few 'fly in' days for the National Museum of the United States Air Force, which is literally in the middle of a triangle airport, with a 7k' runway that could be used.

Given the hit the museums have taken "in these troubling times" :eek: that's a banner that AOPA ought to take up. An overall set of aviation museum days when folks can fly into bases/airfields normally restricted or closed. Have a food tent etc. I'd be all over Wright Patt, heck I bet I'd get all of our club to go.

NAS Pensacola. Tons of space on the T-Line to park - they could run shuttles to the museum (although not a long walk)

Flight Test museum at KEDW, Armament Museum at KNID, Test and Evaluation museum at KNHK (though just off-base so 2W6 is an option with Uber).

Sheppard Air Force base used to do one annually. It's been a while though.

Minor paperwork exercise to get your tail number pre-registered, which I did. But then the event was canceled for weather.

True that, you can go the falls anytime, but during the event you can park on the SAFB side for the show.
 
I have a friend who goes to KRIV all the time for a nearby restaurant. I think Filipino food. I have no idea why they still have their own approach control, given that SCT can see everything in their airspacs and controls it when they're closed.

At night it reverts to SCT. It's a mysterious USAF thing.
