Charlie Bear
We need some air support to assist with a world wide relay of our little buddy, Charlie Bear. Charlie is a small stuffed bear that has traveled the entire united states on motorcycles through our compassionate biker friends. He has visited some great places and been on TV many times as well as featured in a number of magazines. The goal is to raise awareness and money for the Make A Wish foundation. Children can follow Charlie Bear on his facebook page and experience travel through Charlie's adventure. Since most of them are in hospitals and/or unable to leave their home, this gives them the sense of adventure through Charlie's experiences.

Now that we have covered the US, we are in need of inexpensive transportation to get Charlie to the next continent so he can continue to ride. We need to get Charlie to Hawaii, Australia and the UK. Since we can't ride our bikes across the water, we are looking for air support to help in any way possible in order to avoid transportation costs and to continue the spirit of the RELAY in tact. Anyone can ship a bear, but can we find compassionate pilots to get Charlie a first class ride to the next destination?

Here is a link to our Facebook page so you can see more about what we are doing. https://www.facebook.com/groups/WorldWideRelayRiders/547369565350979/?notif_t=group_comment_reply
There is also a Charlie Bear Fan page on facebook: https://www.facebook.com/charlie.bear.351104?directed_target_id=481166641971272

If you can help or know of someone, pilot or flight attendent, that can assist, please let me know. Everyone that has participated to this point has been touched by Charlie and the entire experience. Thanks....

Hi Charlie, and welcome to POA.

I like what you're doing, but you may want to find an additional way to publicize it. Some people would just as soon drive down to Brighton Beach and hand over our wallets, passports, and birth certificates to the first guy named Boris, Ivan, or Vladamir that me meet, as open a FB account.

As for the trip overseas, alas, my privileges are limited to the United States for the foreseeable future. But we have a few members here who routinely hop over the pond, so I'm sure someone will be able to help.

Forgive me if I'm missing the point, but UPS will get Charlie Bear just about anywhere in the world you want by airplane. And it will be a WHOLE lot cheaper.

Based on the actual popularity of FB, I would guess that it actually a pretty good way to publicize stuff. There are a few that don't frequent the site, but most people I know do. I would also point out, that he posted on this site, as well. :D

I think the point was to share Charlie's adventures with the Children. Getting stuffed into a shipping box doesn't have the same romantic appeal as hitching a ride with a freight dog or a jet setter.

+1

For example, a photo of Charlie Bear atop the glarshield of a 747 traveling SFO to Sydney. Or sitting second seat (on a big booster seat) in [fill in your favorite celebrity] jet over to London.

Yes John, you are correct. I rode with Charlie myself for a couple hundred miles. I couldn't even bring myself to put him in the saddle bags, much less a box. Once you meet Charlie, he will tug at your heart. It's hard to accept that he is not real. He has definitely brought out the kid in all of us.

Sounds like a great project, and hopefully somebody can step up with an adventurous way to get Charlie a few stamps in his passport.

I am sure it some sort of misplaced matter of pride, but opening a FaceBook account is not that big of a deal. You can open one, and NEVER post a single picture of your 4 cats, or a picture of a night of drunken debauchery. In fact, you don't even have to open an account to go look at the page promoting Charlie's adventures.

But, if you want to "share" things in 2013, FaceBook is a quick way for things to get "shared" for the good.

I like the way you think! Have not thought about celebrity pilots. That is a great idea. Anyone know a pilot for a golfer? Perhaps one of the Australians? HMMMM, now that's a good idea.

Don't we have a gnome still floating around? He went AWOL last I heard. Really neat idea though. :)

You might also want to join Jetcareers as it is full of professional pilot that hop around the globe all the time. Jetcareers.com. The site is run by Doug Taylor and his screen name is Derg.

Can you change the fact that the biggest stakeholder after Zuckerberg himself is Digital Skies Technologies, which every government on earth believes is a front company for the Russian Mob?

Hey, post whatever you like, wherever you like. As for me, I'd rather not deal with the Bratka. Google and the NSA are bad enough.

Contact the corporate offices for a few of the airlines such as Delta and the others. I would just bet that someone would see what a great PR move this would be for their airline and Charlie might just get that ride on the glare shield of a 747. They would get some fantastic free press from it if they play their cards right and it costs them nothing. I can see it on the evening news right now. They would look great helping the kids.

I was just thinking of Harrison Ford or Travolta (his 737 has Quantas livery) or Jolie or.....all flying with Charlie. There are a large number of famous people who are pilots.

Care to show your math on your claims?

Fidelity owns 76 million shares. How much does DST hold? And, they have been sellers.

What does the origin of a 1%+ shareholder have to do with this group of guys trying to do good things for sick kids?

Charlie bear needs to meet the Walton heir up in Fort Worth with her Global Air. Damn thing looked like a 727 sitting at Brenham.

With a family net worth of over $150BB, Charlie might get a donation too .....

It really has nothing to do with it, and I support the Charlie Bear effort.

My point was merely that a lot of people don't use FB, and don't want to use FB, so an additional information source would be beneficial to their effort.

As for Milner, DST, both Milner's and DST's association with the Bratka, and how they relate to FB, it's a complicated relationship that is well-described elsewhere. Also, you're right, it has nothing to do with Charlie Bear. So I'm just going to post one link:

http://dealbook.nytimes.com/2012/02/09/dst-globals-deal-with-facebook/?_r=0

and say no more about it here. It's a distraction from the thread topic, and the information is abundantly documented elsewhere.

Go to Richard Branson's FB page and ask, Virgin will get Charlie Bear anywhere.
