what experimental backcountry taildraggers will work with an O-540-A Lycoming? From my cursory search I've come up with Bearhawks and Maule M-9. Any others? I've got an extra engine that needs to go in something and I want a taildragger!

Pretty much any experimental ;)
I know a guy with a sky bolt that has a 540 on it. Rocket ship.

BTW, a factory assist built Bushliner Cyclone less interior, panel, and firewall forward is $630K. Be careful what you wish for!

Looks like it's "down" to $512k for the factory assist. Damn, badass setup, but....damn.

Maybe some variant of the Pawnee could take it?

F1 Rocket
Or this. But maybe find someone who is done building and just needs an engine and partner with him.

A few have installed them in an rv-8. A Harmon rocket also, but neither are really back country.
