We are a small group of very Lucky People.

We get to fly. We have a roof over our head. We eat what we want. We travel when and where we want.

Take a moment today to be Thankful for this wonderful freedom and privilege we have.

Yes, some luck along the way. I'm thinking preparation met opportunity too. If we just wait for luck we may wait a few lifetimes. Thankful regardless.

You make your own luck.

I suspect the spirit of OP's original post might have been that we are all quite fortunate and just used the word "lucky" without intending to suggest that we all somehow somehow stumbled blindly into the ability to fly planes.

Otherwise... What a d!ck :)

We all won the lottery being born where and when we were. What you do with your lottery winnings may affect happiness and future opportunity. YOLO. Oh and just because some may be luckier then you that doesn't make you any less lucky.

The luck part is the following:

1. having enough money to buy training
2. being born with enough IQ and enough coordination to do the training
3. being healthy enough to pass the medical
4. being lucky enough not to crash long enough to enjoy the privilege

I found two dimes on the golf course the other day, felt pretty lucky then!

We might be giving "luck" too much credit. Personally, it ranks right up there with the flying spaghetti monster.

1. No one "luckily" makes enough money to fly. Some might be "lucky" to be born into money, but we can all get to it, in this country any way and outside of lottery winnings, luck has very little to do with it.

2. I know some pretty dense and uncoordinated pilots. Maybe they were "lucky" the DPE was asleep at the switch?

3. I agree here. I certainly don't take my health for granted.

4. Unlucky rarely kills you. Laziness, impatience, complacency and indifference, on the other hand, will end you.

4. being lucky enough not to crash long enough to enjoy the privilege

Along these lines, Charles Lindbergh once said, "I decided that if I could fly for ten years before I was killed in a crash, it would be a worthwhile trade for an ordinary lifetime."

I've nearly completed my 4th ordinary lifetime. ;)

Bryan has hit the nail on the head, we are all quite fortunate.
After see all the recent news about people killing other people for a verity of reason, I started thinking how “LUCKY” I am to have been born to loving parents who encourage me to work hard. “Lucky” I grew up in a town where I was not persecuted for believing in the wrong religion. “Lucky” that all my hard work has paid off and allowed me the money and time to fly anywhere I want to go.

Luck my arse. I made several sacrifices to get my ppl. I have to fly within my means by budgeting my flights. I'm greatful to be able to afford to fly and taking care of my family of 5 in this day of age. I do however feel blessed to be able to have the knowledge and skills to safely fly an airplane.

Though I would phrase it differently, I agree.

Yep, When I shot out into the world, I was lucky enough to be born to American parents in a first world hospital, beating the odds. Americans make up about 4% of the worlds population. I could have just as easily been born into a teenage mother in a African refugee camp. Yeah, I'm lucky.

I'm also lucky that my parents raised me to be a decent human, and gave me the tools to make my own luck as I grew up...

Blessed was the word that came to mind about three posts before I read it.
